Influence of Implant Connection, Abutment Design and Screw Insertion Torque on Implant-Abutment Misfit
2020
Background: An accurate fit at the implant-abutment interface is an important factor to avoid biological and mechanical complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal misfit at the implant-abutment interface on external and Morse taper connection, with straight and angulated abutments under different insertion torque loads. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 implants were used, 60 with external connection (EC) and 60 with Morse taper connection (IC). Straight (SA) (n = 60) and angulated abutments (AA) (n = 60) were randomly screwed to each connection at different torque levels (n = 10 each): 10, 20 and 30 Ncm. All specimens were subjected to thermal and cyclic loading …
: Opinions of involved People and external Assessment : a Comparison in the Framework of an after school Programme
2002
This article confronts two ordinary approaches towards assessment process in education. In order to assess the effectiveness of a "study support", the first approach focuses on the opinions of involved people while the second one uses some statistical indicators. The comparison has been drawn up both on assessment tools and results (i.e; gaining a place in the programme, school achievement). The main result shows that those two approaches lead to opposite results and it strongly questions the validity of the assessment and the way people who are involved in education use it.
Improving Institutional Efficiency in the Spanish Higher Education System
2002
* There have been changes in the internal management, better internal efficiency in the use of the resources, and changes in the organisation and the structure of the government. The changes in the different institutions are directly linked to the external pressure to which they are subjected. The universities that are under greater pressure in terms of restrictions in their budgets or control of their results show greater initiative to adopt these changes. But the magnitude of the changes depends on the capacity of the universities to carry them out. The existence of legal, institutional or structural barriers can sometimes cause problems in the adoption of necessary changes or can modify …
Application of an HPLC-MS/MS method for mycotoxin analysis in commercial baby foods
2012
Abstract This article describes the validation of an analytical method for the detection of 21 mycotoxins in baby food. The analytical method is based on the simultaneous extraction of selected mycotoxins by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) followed by liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) using a hybrid triple quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometer (QTRAP®). Information Dependent Acquisition (IDA), an extra confirmation tool for samples that contain the selected mycotoxins, was used. The matrix effects were evaluated, and the corrections for the matrix effects were performed using two calibration approaches: external matrix-matched calibration and…
On Subsidies in Trade Agreements
2008
When terms of trade externalities are the only source of cross-border inefficiencies, trade negotiators must negotiate market access only. Based on this principle, Bagwell and Staiger (2006) argue against the WTO subsidy rules. The present paper shows that their argument fails when trade agreements are required to be self-enforceable. By affecting output, subsidies impact the self-enforcement constraints, which, in turn, determine the policies of trade agreements. Consequently, trade agreements must include subsidy rules. In realistic scenarios, banning production subsidies is efficient while negotiating market access only is inefficient. In this sense, this paper makes a strong case for th…
„Dyplomatyczna Republika Europy”?
2018
‘Diplomatic Republic of Europe’? Reflections on the Impact of Selected Lisbon Solutions on EU Diplomacy in a Multilateral International Environment The aim of the reflections in this article is to analyze the impact of selected institutional solutions adopted by the Treaty of Lisbon on the EU diplomacy in contemporary international relations. The article does not refer to all regulations that concern broadly defined EU External Policy, but those which, by the nature of their connections, content of competence and meaning, became the object of special interest of the treaty architects and whose implementation was to counteract deficits in continuity, coherence and leadership in EU External P…
The Value of Local Externalities in Country-of-Origin Clusters: Evidence from China
2019
Business cooperation and the exchange of information and knowledge are actions and decisions that firms can build in order to compete more effectively in globalized markets. These options are even more relevant for SMEs to access and expand in new international markets and through more commitment entry modes as foreign direct investment (FDI). While studies on the role of local externalities are well established in the Economic Geography literature, its international dimension is still unexplored in deep. This is surprising when the survival and growth of the subsidiaries depends on the efficient adjustment with its context. The objective of this paper is to analyse the perceptions of the r…
DELL’UTRI E CONTRADA “GEMELLI DIVERSI”: È LA REVISIONE EUROPEA LO STRUMENTO DI OTTEMPERANZA ALLE SENTENZE CEDU
2017
Italian supreme Court denies that the origin of external participation in mafia-type criminal association lies in case law and envisages the European review as the tool to comply with ECtHR judgements in similar cases to that of Contrada. This jurisprudence provides a proper opportunity for an in-depth exam…
Pension Schemes and Falling Birth-Rates: Change in Customs or Microeconomic Optimization?
2004
In this paper, we develop an overlapping generations model where fertility is endogenous. The utility of the parents is a function of the number of their children, and each child implies two types of fixed costs: the financial cost and the cost in terms of time. A "pay-as-you-go" pension scheme introduces an externality in that the number of children will be fewer than optimal because their favorable impact on the level of pension income is not taken into account. First, we define the competitive equilibrium dynamics and the steady state. This allows comparisons with the optimal stationary state, a notion which generalizes the golden rule. Two instruments, pensions and child benefits, are n…
