Stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction mediated by magnetic nanoparticles-metal organic framework composite: Determination of N-nitrosamines in…

2019

Abstract A new analytical method based on the recently proposed stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction (SBSDME) technique has been developed to determine eight hazardous N-nitrosamines in cosmetic products. As previous step, a simple clean-up is carried out with hexane to remove those highly lipophilic compounds that disturb the SBSDME step. Subsequently, SBSDME is performed by using magnetic nanoparticles–metal organic framework composite, CoFe2O4/MIL-101(Fe), as sorbent to entrap the target analytes, which are later chemically desorbed and measured by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). The experimental variables related to the SBSDME procedure were studied to…

Science based calibration for the extraction of 'analyte-specific' HPLC-DAD chromatograms in environmental analysis

2010

Multivariate science based calibration (SBC) has been applied to the resolution of overlapped peaks in liquid chromatography with diode array detection (LC-DAD). Complex river water samples spiked with 11 pharmaceutical substances resulted in poorly resolved chromatograms containing additional peaks from interfering matrix compounds and a change in the background absorbance due to the mobile phase gradient. Applying the present multivariate approach it was possible to resolve all 11 analytes from overlapping peaks, obtaining linear calibration lines (R2 > 0.96). Recovery percentages on spiked samples ranged between 74.6 and 113.5%, which are quite satisfactory taking into account the low co…

Development of a selective solid phase extraction method for nitro musk compounds in environmental waters using a molecularly imprinted sorbent

2013

A powerful analytical method for the determination of the family of the nitro musk compounds at trace level in environmental waters-river, sea, and water from a treatment plant-is presented. The method is based on the use of molecularly imprinted silica (MIS) as sorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) used for the clean-up and the concentration step of the target analytes previous to their determination by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The optimized extraction procedure allowed extraction recoveries between 61% and 87% using the MIS. The comparison with a non-imprinted silica (NIS) sorbent, for which extraction recoveries between 8% and 26% were obtained, showed the high selectivit…

Immuno-SLM—a combined sample handling and analytical technique

2004

Immuno-supported liquid membrane (immuno-SLM) extraction is a new technique that makes use of antibody (Ab)-antigen interactions as the "extraction force" to drive the mass transfer in a selective way. In immuno-SLM, anti-analyte (Ag) Abs are introduced into the acceptor phase of the SLM unit to trap the Ag that passes from the flowing donor through the SLM into the stagnant acceptor. The amount of immuno-extracted analyte (AbAg) is quantified by connecting the immuno-SLM unit on-line with a non-competitive heterogeneous fluorescence flow immunoassay (FFIA) that makes use of a fluorescein-labeled analyte tracer that titrates the residual excess of Ab present in the acceptor. A restricted ac…

Comparison of the solid-phase extraction efficiency of a bounded and an included cyclodextrin-silica microporous composite for polycyclic aromatic hy…

2016

Solid-phase extraction is one of the most important techniques for sample purification and concentration. A wide variety of solid phases have been used for sample preparation over time. In this work, the efficiency of a new kind of solid-phase extraction adsorbent, which is a microporous material made from modified cyclodextrin bounded to a silica network, is evaluated through an analytical method which combines solid-phase extraction with high-performance liquid chromatography to determine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in water samples. Several parameters that affected the analytes recovery, such as the amount of solid phase, the nature and volume of the eluent or the sample volume and …

Comprehensive analysis of airborne pesticides using hard cap espresso extraction-liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry

2017

A hard cap espresso extraction procedure has been developed to recover airborne pesticides in particulate matter trapped in filters. This extraction step was made for 20s at 72°C and 19bar using 50mL of 20% (v/v) acetonitrile in water. After that, based on NaCl salting out, extracts were concentrated 22 times and analysed by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography - high resolution mass spectrometry. 35 pesticides were evaluated, as a proof of concept, being validated the whole methodology and compared the extraction method with that based on microwave assisted extraction for 20min. In short, the method avoids cross-contamination of samples, it is relatively fast and consumes only 10mL…

Evaluation of Thin Film Microextraction for trace elemental analysis of liquid samples using LIBS detection

2021

An analytical methodology based in the combination of Thin Film Microextraction with Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (TFME-LIBS) was investigated, for the first time, for detection of Cu, Cr, Ni and Pb in aqueous solutions. In this methodology, the analytes were extracted in a thin film of adsorbent material deposited on a solid support, which was introduced in the sample to analyse. After extraction, the analytes retained in the adsorbent were analysed by LIBS. In order to obtain adsorbent films useful for the microextraction step, two different experimental procedures for film generation, denoted as Drop Casting Deposition and Mould Deposition, were evaluated. In both cases, graphene…

Comparative study of two needle models in terms of deflection during inferior alveolar nerve block

2009

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the possible differences in deflection between two needles of same length and external gauge but with different internal gauges during truncal block of the inferior alveolar nerve. The initial working hypothesis was that greater deflection may be expected with larger internal gauge needles. Study design: Four clinicians subjected 346 patients to inferior alveolar nerve block and infiltrating anesthesia of the buccal nerve trajectory for the surgical or conventional extraction of the lower third molar. A nonautoaspirating syringe system with 2 types of needle was used: a standard 27-gauge x 35-mm needle with an internal gauge of 0.215 mm …
