Microwave-assisted extraction of polybrominated diphenyl ethers and polychlorinated naphthalenes concentrated on semipermeable membrane devices

2006

Abstract Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) has been evaluated as an alternative to dialysis for the extraction of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) sampled by semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS–MS). For MAE optimization a two level full factorial design 2 3 , plus a centre point, which involves 11 randomized runs was used. The results showed that the temperature had a significant influence on the extraction of the nine PBDEs and four PCNs tested. Also, the solvent volume had a positive influence on the extraction of PBDEs and PCNs, but only in latter compounds, it achieves…

Supported liquid membrane extraction of glyphosate metabolites

2001

Use of the supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique for (aminomethyl)phosphonic acid (AMPA) extraction is presented. For the extraction of this analyte a suitable SLM system involves a liquid membrane containing Aliquat 336 – a cationic carrier that facilitates AMPA transport. The extraction of this compound, as in the case of glyphosate, is dependent on the donor phase pH and the concentration and type of counter-ion in the acceptor phase, although some differences are also observed. In both cases the transport mechanism is counter-coupled transport in which the driving force of mass transport over the membrane is created by the gradient of chloride anions from the acceptor to donor phase.

Determination of tetracyclines in multi-specie animal tissues by pressurized liquid extraction and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry

2009

Abstract A specific, sensitive and robust pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) method for determining tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline and doxycycline in bovine, swine, poultry and lamb muscle tissues is presented. PLE was performed using an ASE ® 200 from Dionex and water as extractant, followed by solid-phase extraction (SPE) using an Oasis HLB cartridge. The method was validated for beef, chicken, pork and lamb meat in compliance with the requirements set by Commission Decision, 2002/657/EC [Commission Decision 2002/657/EC (2002). Samplers for VOCs in air based on cyclodextrin–silica hybrid microporous solid phases

2012

Samplers for VOCs in air based on cyclodextrin-silica hybrid microporous solid phases are proposed. The solid phase preparation is very easy and inexpensive. Proposed samplers compared with other solid phases present the advantages of a wider range of operative conditions for VOCs desorption. Samplers are tested based on results for the determination of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene (BTEX) in air. Operational parameters are optimized and quantitative recovery is obtained using a solid phase from 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin and acetonitrile as the extraction solvent. The recoveries obtained are 89 ± 4%, 90 ± 6%, 91 ± 2%, 87.0 ± 0.9%, 88 ± 4%, and 88 ± …

A new derivatization procedure for the determination of cephalexin with 1,2-naphthoquinone 4-sulphonate in pharmaceutical and urine samples using sol…

1998

Abstract The present report shows how to derivatize cephalexin with 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate (NQS) into solid-phase extraction cartridges (C18) using UV–visible detection. Optimum conditions for this new procedure are: hydrogen carbonate/carbonate buffer pH=10.5, 5 min reaction time at 25°C and NQS concentration of 7.1×10−3 mol l−1. The accuracy and the precision of the method were tested. The procedure was used to measure cephalexin in pharmaceutical and urine samples. The results obtained were contrasted with those reported by UV-spectrophotometric and HPLC methods for pharmaceutical samples and with HPLC method for urine samples. The H-point standard additions method was used to m…

Determination of trichothecenes in chicken liver using gas chromatography coupled with triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry

2018

Abstract Chicken meat and edible offal are included in a wide number of preparations in the worldwide cuisine. Among the offal, the liver is one of the most consumed in some countries like Egypt since it is rich in proteins and is an economical source of many essential nutrients for humans. Mycotoxins, secondary toxic metabolites produced by fungi, have the potential to enter human food chain not only with cereal consumption but also through edible tissues from animals fed with mycotoxin-contaminated feed. Accordingly, a rapid method for the determination of eight trichothecenes in chicken liver was developed based on a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe (QuEChERS) extraction an…

Determination of busulfan in human plasma using high-performance liquid chromatography with pre-column derivatization and fluorescence detection.

1999

A rapid, sensitive and reproducible high-performance liquid chromatographic assay for busulfan in human plasma was developed. After extraction of plasma samples with acetonitrile and methylene chloride, busulfan and the internal standard [1,5-bis(methanesulfonyloxy)pentane] were derivatized with 8-mercaptoquinoline to yield fluorescent compounds which were detected with a fluorescence detector equipped with filters of 360 nm (excitation) and 425 nm (emission). Calibration graphs showed a linear correlation (r>0.9990) over the concentration range of 20-2000 ng/ml. The recovery of busulfan from plasma standards was 70+/-5%. The detection and quantification limits for busulfan in plasma sample…

Development a mitigation strategy of enniatins in pasta under home-cooking conditions

2016

The effect of pasta cooking on the enniatins (ENs) contents was evaluated in white and whole-grain pasta. The cooking of pasta was performed for 10 min in boiling water. ENs were extracted from raw and cooked pasta by Solid-Liquid extraction with acetonitrile, and from cooking water by Dispersive Liquid–Liquid Micro-Extraction (DLLME) with a mixture of acetonitrile and carbone tetrachloride. Mycotoxin analysis was performed by Liquid Chromatography coupled to Tandem Mass Spectrometry. The effect of pasta cooking has a marked influence on the reduction of ENs levels. Reductions of 98–100% for ENA, 94–95% for ENA1, 14–49% for ENB and 53–65% for ENB1 were achieved after the process. ENs were d…

New Alternative in the Methodology of Extraction and Dyeing with Active Molecules Derived from Vegetal Sources

2016

Abstract The general objective of this study refers to the identification of a sustainable and physical methodology of extraction of active compounds, envisaging the preservation of the high purity active natural dye molecule from nut shell (juglone), even under the conditions of an extraction performed in a mixt solvent medium (water-ethanol). The second major objective of the study consists of the application of these above mentioned dyes onto natural and synthetic substrates, thus making a correlation between their colour attributes and the fibrous composition of the substrates they are applied on. The motivation of this research was given by the identification of an improved extraction …
