Improving table compression with combinatorial optimization

We study the problem of compressing massive tables within the partition-training paradigm introduced by Buchsbaum et al. [SODA'00], in which a table is partitioned by an off-line training procedure into disjoint intervals of columns, each of which is compressed separately by a standard, on-line compressor like gzip. We provide a new theory that unifies previous experimental observations on partitioning and heuristic observations on column permutation, all of which are used to improve compression rates. The Descriptive Complexity Approach to LOGCFL

Building upon the known generalized-quantifier-based first-order characterization of LOGCFL, we lay the groundwork for a deeper investigation. Specifically, we examine subclasses of LOGCFL arising from varying the arity and nesting of groupoidal quantifiers. Our work extends the elaborate theory relating monoidal quantifiers to NC1 and its subclasses. Dzięki zebranym dokumentom i materiałom ustalono najważniejsze fakty z życia generała, dotyczące jego pochodzenia, nauki w Cesarskim Aleksandrowskim Liceum (Lycee Imperial Alexandre) w Petersburgu, udziału w walkach o niepodległość Polski oraz kariery w kawalerii i szkolnictwie wojskowym II RP. Udostępnione przez bliskich księcia materiały, skonfrontowane ze źródłami urzędowymi i dostępnymi publikacjami, pozwoliły także na ustalenie dodatkowych okoliczności związanych z jego śmiercią z rąk NKWD w 1940 roku. W trakcie licznych konfliktów zbrojnych rozegranych w osiemnastowiecznej Europie Prusy Wschodnie tylko raz były teatrem działań wojennych: latem 1757 r. – zimą 1758 r. Dwukrotnie jednak działania zbrojne toczyły się nad jej granicami, a w latach 1734-1735 przez prowincje pruską przechodziły transporty i oddziały walczących wojsk. Taka postawa nie przyniosła wówczas królowi pruskiemu żadnych korzyści, ale też uchroniła Prusy Wschodnie oraz jego mieszkańców przed ewentualnymi negatywnymi skutkami wojny na terytorium Rzeczpospolitej. Topological properties of cellular automata on trees

We prove that there do not exist positively expansive cellular automata defined on the full k-ary tree shift (for k>=2). Moreover, we investigate some topological properties of these automata and their relationships, namely permutivity, surjectivity, preinjectivity, right-closingness and openness.
Democracy in Constituent Moments: Exploring the Spanish Constitutional Debate of 1931 through Political Theory and Conceptual History

This paper aims to answer the question of why constituent moments are relevant to political theory. It hypothesises the Spanish constitutional debate of 1931 as a case of conceptual innovation in parliamentary politics by arguing that debates in constituent moments entail a special kind of parliamentary argumentation when new political regimes are established. There, all sorts of theoretical, normative, historical, and institutional aspects are discussed to deliberate on the future character and functioning of a political regime.
