Implementing consistent NLO factorization in single inclusive forward hadron production

2017

Single inclusive forward hadron production in high-energy hadron collisions can provide an important test of the Color Glass Condensate picture at small $x$. Recent studies of this process at next-to-leading order have led to problematic results, with cross sections becoming negative at large transverse momenta. We study a new formulation of this quantity proposed recently by Iancu et al. We show that it leads to physical results up to large transverse momenta at fixed coupling. Taking into account running coupling effects in a way that is consistent with existing DIS calculations still poses a challenge.

Analytic form of the full two-loop five-gluon all-plus helicity amplitude

We compute the full-color two-loop five-gluon amplitude for the all-plus helicity configuration. In order to achieve this, we calculate the required master integrals for all permutations of the external legs, in the physical scattering region. We verify the expected divergence structure of the amplitude, and extract the finite hard function. We further validate our result by checking the factorization properties in the collinear limit. Our result is fully analytic and valid in the physical scattering region. We express it in a compact form containing logarithms, dilogarithms and rational functions.

Analytic result for a two-loop five-particle amplitude

We compute the symbol of the full-color two-loop five-particle amplitude in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills, including all non-planar subleading-color terms. The amplitude is written in terms of permutations of Parke-Taylor tree-level amplitudes and pure functions to all orders in the dimensional regularization parameter, in agreement with previous conjectures. The answer has the correct collinear limits and infrared factorization properties, allowing us to define a finite remainder function. We study the multi-Regge limit of the non-planar terms, analyze its subleading power corrections, and present analytically the leading logarithmic terms.

Forward jets in high energy factorisation at the lhc

We report on calculations of forward jet production at the Large Hadron Collider based on QCD high-energy factorization. In particular we emphasize dynamical features of the matrix elements controlling the resummation of logarithmically enhanced corrections in √s/E⊥, where E⊥ is the hardest jet transverse energy.

Effective Field Theory for Jet Processes

Processes involving narrow jets receive perturbative corrections enhanced by logarithms of the jet opening angle and the ratio of the energies inside and outside the jets. Analyzing cone-jet processes in effective field theory, we find that in addition to soft and collinear fields their description requires degrees of freedom which are simultaneously soft and collinear to the jets. These collinear-soft particles can resolve individual collinear partons, leading to a complicated multi-Wilson-line structure of the associated operators at higher orders. Study of the decayB¯0→D*+ωπ−

We report on a study of the decay B0bar -> D*+ omega pi- with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Based on a sample of 232 million BBbar decays, we measure the branching fraction BF(B0bar -> D*+ omega pi-) = (2.88 +/- 0.21(stat.) +/- 0.31(syst.)) \times 10^{-3}. We study the invariant mass spectrum of the omega pi- system in this decay. This spectrum is in good agreement with expectations based on factorization and the measured spectrum in tau- -> omega pi- nu_tau. We also measure the polarization of the D*+ as a function of the omega pi- mass. In the mass region 1.1 to 1.9 GeV we measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization of the D*+ …

On the chiral covariant approach to ρρ scattering

We examine in detail a recent work (D.~G\"ulmez, U.-G.~Mei\ss ner and J.~A.~Oller, Eur. Phys. J. C 77:460 (2017)), where improvements to make $\rho\rho$ scattering relativistically covariant are made. The paper has the remarkable conclusion that the $J=2$ state disappears with a potential which is much more attractive than for $J=0$, where a bound state is found. We trace this abnormal conclusion to the fact that an "on-shell" factorization of the potential is done in a region where this potential is singular and develops a large discontinuous and unphysical imaginary part. Λ(1405)production in theπ−p→K0πΣreaction

We discuss the mechanisms that lead to $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1405)$ production in the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{0}\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\Sigma}$ reaction. The problem has gained renewed interest after different works converge to the conclusion that there are two resonances around the region of $1400\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\text{MeV}$, rather than one, and that they couple differently to the $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\Sigma}$ and $\overline{K}N$ channels. Factorization and NNLL Resummation for Higgs Production with a Jet Veto

Using methods of effective field theory, we derive the first all-order factorization theorem for the Higgs-boson production cross section with a jet veto, imposed by means of a standard sequential recombination jet algorithm. Like in the case of small-q_T resummation in Drell-Yan and Higgs production, the factorization is affected by a collinear anomaly. Our analysis provides the basis for a systematic resummation of large logarithms log(m_H/p_T^veto) beyond leading-logarithmic order. Specifically, we present predictions for the resummed jet-veto cross section and efficiency at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic order. Factorization and resummation for jet broadening

Jet broadening is an event-shape variable probing the transverse momenta of particles inside jets. It has been measured precisely in e+e- annihilations and is used to extract the strong coupling constant. The factorization of the associated cross section at small values of the broadening is afflicted by a collinear anomaly. Based on an analysis of this anomaly, we present the first all-order expressions for jet-broadening distributions, which are free of large perturbative logarithms in the two-jet limit. Our formulae reproduce known results at next-to-leading logarithmic order but also extend to higher orders.
