Development of Methods for the Evaluation of Olive Oil Oxidation

In this work, the chemical changes produced in an EVOO sample, both in the presence and absence of its phenolic fraction during an accelerated ageing treatment have been studied. The changes produced in phenolic compound concentrations, jointly with the changes observed in free acidity, peroxide value, UV absorbance, fatty acid composition, OSI and T content, were monitored. In addition, transformation of phenolic compounds during the accelerated ageing treatment in EVOO samples with phenolic fraction was also studied.

Abstract 1. The body weight, plumage, insulation, oxygen consumption and body lipids were studied seasonally in the house sparrow, Passer domesticus L. 2. The weights of body and plumage were greater in autumn and winter than in summer. 3. The insulative property of the plumage was better in autumn and winter birds than in summer birds. 4. The oxygen consumption of young birds was higher than that of plucked and adult birds. 5. The amount of subcutaneous depot fat tissue and its lipid content was greatest in autumn. Age-related changes in linoleic acid bioconversion by isolated hepatocytes from spontaneously hypertensive and normotensive rats

This study points out the hepatocyte interconversion of the linoleic acid family during hypertension. Hepatocyte delta 6 desaturase activity was higher in 1 month-old spontaneously hypertensive rats than in normotensive controls. A similar tendency was observed in 6 month-old SHR. delta 5 desaturase activity was higher only in 1 month-old spontaneously hypertensive rats as compared to controls. Desaturase activities were particularly high at the age of 6 months. X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a rare neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of very-long-chain fatty acids resulting from a beta-oxidation defect. Oxidative stress and inflammation are also key components of the pathogenesis. Environmental fate determining physical properties including their temperature dependence for five nitro musks and for seven polycyclic musks were estimated. The separation, characterization, and determination of mixtures of alkyl ether sulfates (AES) and fatty acids (C10-C16) in background electrolytes (BGEs) containing acetonitrile (ACN)-water mixtures is addressed. Due to inhibition of the ionization of the carboxylate groups, the migration time and the resolution between the fatty acids decreased when the water content of the BGE was reduced, but efficiency and resolution between the AES oligomers improved.
