Predictive role of capillaroscopic skin ulcer risk index in systemic sclerosis: A multicentre validation study

IntroductionThe early detection of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients at high risk of developing digital ulcers could allow preventive treatment, with a reduction of morbidity and social costs. Comparison of tactile sensitivity measured with a new digital esthesiometer (Beam Test) relative to Semmes–Weinstein monofilament analog esthesiometer

The assessment of tactile sensitivity uses many tests, of which monofilaments are considered the best. The aim of this study was to develop a tactile sensitivity test, similar to the monofilament test, which eliminates the error risk related to manipulations by the observer, and to establish a correspondence scale. We studied 29 healthy subjects (18 women and 11 men) with a mean age of 27.8 years. The Semmes-Weinstein monofilament (SWM) analog esthesiometer and a digital beam esthesiometer (DBE) were used. Motor imagery training: Kinesthetic imagery strategy and inferior parietal fMRI activation

Motor imagery (MI) is the mental simulation of action frequently used by professionals in different fields. However, with respect to performance, well‐controlled functional imaging studies on MI training are sparse. We investigated changes in fMRI representation going along with performance changes of a finger sequence (error and velocity) after MI training in 48 healthy young volunteers. Three-year (2014-2016) activity report of the Replantation Service for hand amputations in Poland

W pracy przedstawiono podsumowanie 32 miesięcy działalności Serwisu Replantacyjnego dla amputacji rąk w Polsce od stycznia 2014 roku do sierpnia 2016 roku. W analizowanym czasie zgłoszono łącznie 568 przypadków – amputacji, częściowych amputacji i innych rozległych urazów kończyn górnych, z czego zaakceptowano 354 przypadki (62%), a odrzucono 214 (38%). Wśród 354 wszystkich zaakceptowanych przypadków znalazło się 167 całkowitych amputacji (47%), 142 amputacji niecałkowitych (40%) i 45 (13%) innych ciężkich urazów, które zagrażały utratą kończyny. The aim of the study was to assess if the observation of single or more complex muscle movements activates the premotor cortex in man. On orienting the hand to reach and grasp an object.

Subjects were required to reach and grasp a parallelepiped, the position, orientation and size of which were varied. The kinematics of reaching and grasping movements was studied in full vision and in no vision conditions. Both direction and movement amplitude of reaching were affected by object orientation. Conversely, both the time course of finger axis orientation and the angular displacement of the hand at wrist were influenced by object position. Hand hyperphalangism leading to shortened index fingers with ulnar deviation, hallux valgus, mild facial dysmorphism and respiratory compromise requiring assisted ventilation are the key features of Chitayat syndrome. This condition results from the recurrent heterozygous missense variant NM_006494.2:c.266A>G; p.(Tyr89Cys) in ERF on chromosome 19q13.2, encoding the ETS2 repressor factor (ERF) protein. Present in this enhancer are an A/T-rich box that binds MEF-2 protein(s) and a G-rich box (AGTGGGGGAGGGGGCTGCG) that interacts with ubiquitously expressed factors. Transmembrane electrochemistry of erythrocytes: Direct electrochemical test for detecting hemolysis in whole blood

A rapid method for detecting hemolysis in whole blood based on a direct electrochemical assay either in venous blood and finger blood, respectively at glassy carbon and screen-printed graphite electrodes is described. The presence of hemolysis is detected from characteristic voltammetric signatures associated to Fe-heme units in healthy and hemolyzed erythrocytes.
