2009
MAS Simulation of a “Bush Taxi” Transportation Service : Summary of a project carried out during the MAPS training course
2010
The human and social sciences have always sought to improve their tools and resources in order to spread their knowledge. The most recent of these tools, Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), also known as Agent-Based Models (ABM), is a remarkable means of formalization and visualization of spatial processes. Multi-Agent Systems have already proved to be extremely useful modeling tools in various disciplines such as epidemiology, biology, and ecology, but also economics and geography (Amblard F. 2006). Today's research and methods aiming to deal with spatial problems are more and more treated within the paradigm and theories of complex systems. Indeed, one of the advantages of multi-agent systems, in …
Reflexivity and Self-Presentation in Multicultural Encounters: Making Sense of Self and Other
2014
International audience; This chapter highlights ways in which reflexivity, as a process involved in multimodal communication, shapes our multicultural encounters. Following the symbolic interactionists, reflexivity is presented here as a basic process in all interpersonal communication, structuring everyday interactions on the level of intersubjectivity. The chapter will discuss the way participants may (consciously or unconsciously) develop self-presentation strategies (Goffman), including identity strategies (Camilleri), or adopt strategic “orientations” to their relationships with Others, along with the underlying questions of agency and intentionality and the types and limits of (consci…
Enseigner l’activité « écriture collaborative »
2019
Although certain education policies emphasize “the ability to collaborate” as a key element of educational reform, education for digital collaboration is poorly supported by public schools. To build the conditions of a sustainable education, we have developed a training model focused on learner autonomy. We present the results of an experiment conducted with students, our pedagogical model and its implementation, as well as our observation and analysis of this experiment. We analyzed discussions in instant messaging between students and teachers, and their productions. All results show the influence of our training. Thus, education and digital collaboration can be built from a triple analyt…
Reflecting back, or What can the French tell the English about humour?
2011
Full text available online: http://openjournals.library.usyd.edu.au/index.php/SSE/article/view/5321; International audience; This paper explores the conceptual and historical differences between Francophone and Anglophone understandings of humour. While successive attempts by French scholars to classify and define the imported concept of humour offer a basis for a 'reciprocal definition' of the French scholarly mind, this essay aims in a different direction, seeking to show how the more specific French understanding of humour offers a useful foil for thinking about the broader English concept, and particularly how the reflexive dimension associated with 'humour' has particular applications …
