Enhanced Reflectivity Change and Phase Shift of Polarized Light: Double Parameter Multilayer Sensor

2022

Herein, the concept of point of darkness based on polarized light phase difference and absorption of light is demonstrated by simulations using low refractive index and extinction coefficient semiconductor and dielectric, and high refractive index nonoxidizing metal multilayer thin film structures. Several multilayer sensor configurations show great sensitivity to thickness and refractive index variation of the detectable material by measuring the reflectivity ratio {\Psi} and phase shift {\Delta}. Focus is on such multilayers, which have sensitivity to both parameters ({\Psi}, {\Delta}) in the visible spectral range, thus opening the possibility for further research on a new biomedical sen…

First-principles calculations on double-walled inorganic nanotubes with hexagonal chiralities

2011

The two sets of commensurate double-walled boron nitride and titania hexagonally-structured nanotubes (DW BN and TiO2 NTs) possessing either armchair- or zigzag-type chiralities have been considered, i.e., (n1,n1)@(n2,n2) or (n1,0)@(n2,0), respectively. For symmetry analysis of these nanotubes, the line symmetry groups for one-periodic (1D) nanostructures with rotohelical symmetry have been applied. To analyze the structural and electronic properties of hexagonal DW NTs, a series of large-scale ab initio DFT-LCAO calculations have been performed using the hybrid Hartree-Fock/Kohn-Sham exchange-correlation functional PBE0 (as implemented in CRYSTAL-09 code). To establish the optimal inter-sh…

One-sided atomic deflection in the optical Stern-Gerlach effect and coherent trapping

2002

In the optical Stern-Gerlach effect, the interaction of a traveling two-level atom with the electromagnetic field of an optical cavity causes a splitting of the atomic trajectory. One may ask if it is possible to single out particular initial configurations of the system that will lead to selective scattering, in which the atoms follow only one trajectory. We show that these configurations consist of a coherent superposition of the atomic internal states, and of a field phase state or a field coherent state, with a precise phase relation between the two subsystems: The same configurations which produce the so-called atomic coherent trapping in the Jaynes-Cummings model.

Congenital mitral regurgitation caused by a perforation in the anterior leaflet: Perioperative evaluation by color-coded Doppler echocardiography

1990

Color-coded two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography confirmed the presence of severe congenital mitral regurgitation in an 8-month-old infant. Intraoperative inspection revealed an isolated perforation in the anterior leaflet.

A remark on weakly convex continuous mappings in topological linear spaces

2009

Abstract Let C be a compact convex subset of a Hausdorff topological linear space and T : C → C a continuous mapping. We characterize those mappings T for which T ( C ) is convexly totally bounded.

Prototype for Surface Albedo Retrieval Based on Sentinel-3 OLCI and SLSTR Data in the Framework of Copernicus Climate Change

2021

This work describes the different algorithmic steps used to retrieve the first Surface Albedo (SA) product based on Sentinel-3 (S-3) data in the framework of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). The atmospherically corrected Top-Of-Atmosphere (TOA) reflectances into Top-Of-Canopy (TOC) reflectances are brokered from the Copernicus Global Land Service (CGLS). The TOC reflectances are used to obtain a BRDF model. Next, the spectral and angular integration steps are implemented, which take the latter coefficients as input to produce spectral and broadband albedo quantities. The preliminary quality assessment of BSA broadband albedo for the total shortwave shows good overall spatiotempo…

Dynamic analysis for axially moving viscoelastic panels

2012

In this study, stability and dynamic behaviour of axially moving viscoelastic panels are investigated with the help of the classical modal analysis. We use the flat panel theory combined with the Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic constitutive model, and we include the material derivative in the viscoelastic relations. Complex eigenvalues for the moving viscoelastic panel are studied with respect to the panel velocity, and the corresponding eigenfunctions are found using central finite differences. The governing equation for the transverse displacement of the panel is of fifth order in space, and thus five boundary conditions are set for the problem. The fifth condition is derived and set at the in-…

Riflettere in gruppo come pratica emancipativa

2021
