Dependence of two-proton radioactivity on nuclear pairing models
2017
Sensitivity of two-proton emitting decay to nuclear pairing correlation is discussed within a time-dependent three-body model. We focus on the $^6$Be nucleus assuming $\alpha + p + p$ configuration, and its decay process is described as a time-evolution of the three-body resonance state. For a proton-proton subsystem, a schematic density-dependent contact (SDDC) pairing model is employed. From the time-dependent calculation, we observed the exponential decay rule of a two-proton emission. It is shown that the density dependence does not play a major role in determining the decay width, which can be controlled only by the asymptotic strength of the pairing interaction. This asymptotic pairin…
Characterization of the nucleation process of lysozyme at physiological pH: Primary but not sole process
2013
We report on a kinetic study of the heat-induced aggregation process of lysozyme at physiological pH. The time evolution of the aggregation extent and the conformational changes of the protein were followed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and FTIR spectroscopy, respectively, whereas the morphology of the aggregates was observed by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The conformational changes of the secondary and tertiary structures were simultaneous and distinct in time with respect to the formation of aggregates. Oligomer formation occurred through at least two different aggregation processes: a nucleation process and a homogeneous non-nucleative diffusion-controlled process. FTIR measuremen…
Effect of 15% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel on color stability of giomer and microfilled composite resin: an in vitro comparison
2011
Objectives: The effect of 15% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel on color stability and surface topography of a giomer and a microfilled composite resin was evaluated in the present in vitro study. Study design: Forty discs measuring 10 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness were prepared from a giomer and a microfilled composite resin. Each material yielded 20 discs with completely smooth surfaces. Then a spectrophotometer was used to measure L* (lightness), a* (redness, greenness) and b* (blueness, yellowness) color coordinates of all the discs. Subsequently, the specimens were subjected to 15% carbamide peroxide bleaching gel. After measuring the color coordinates once again, color changes (…
Contexto editorial, cultural y socio-político de la edición príncipe de la «Historia de la doncella Teodor» (Toledo: Pedro Hagenbach, 1500-1501)
2021
The material analysis of the only surviving copy of the editio princeps of the Historia de la doncella Teodor allows us to date it back to the incunabula era and to attribute its printing to Pedro Hagenbach’s workshop. The close relationship amongst Hagenbach’s workshop, the reformist project of Archbishop Cisneros, and the interests of the Catholic Monarchs sets an editorial and cultural context that supports the adaptation of Teodor to the printing press. This work perfectly agreed with the thematic and ideological guidelines for the renewal of Christian customs and values. The forceful religious and intellectual imposition of the young and learned slave, turned into a “fijadalgo” in the …
Quantification of the Raf-C1 Interaction With Solid-Supported Bilayers
2002
By use of the quartz crystal microbalance technique, the interaction of the Raf-Ras binding domain (RafRBD) and the cysteine-rich domain Raf-C1 with lipids was quantified by using solid-supported bilayers immobilized on gold electrodes deposited on 5 MHz quartz plates. Solid-supported lipid bilayers were composed of an initial octanethiol monolayer chemisorbed on gold and a physisorbed phospholipid monolayer varying in its lipid composition as the outermost layer. The integrity of bilayer preparation was monitored by impedance spectroscopy. For binding experiments, a protein construct comprising the RafRBD and Raf-C1 linked to the maltose binding protein and a His tag, termed MBP-Raf-C1, wa…
Studies of Preparation and Stability of Liposomes Formed by 1,1'-[(3,5-didodeciloxycarbonyl-4-phenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-2,6-diil)-dimethylen]Bispyri…
2013
In this work we describe the studies of preparation and stability of liposomes formed by 1,1'-[(3,5-didodeciloxycarbonyl-4-phenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine-2,6-diil) dimethylebispyridinium dibromide, novel lipid-like compound. The influence of the amount of amphiphilic compound, solvent and sonication time was studied. Liposomes were prepared by dispersing of compound in the corresponding media at a selected concentration by sonication using a probe type sonicator and characterised by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods.
Numerical and experimental study of liquid metal stirring by rotating permanent magnets
2018
In this work, we study liquid gallium stirring by rotating permanent magnets. We demonstrate possibility of easily creating different flow patterns by rotating permanent magnets, which can be industrially important for controlling heat and mass transfer processes in the system. Unlike the typical approach of simulating magnet rotation as a transient problem and time-averaging the Lorentz forces, we solve the magnet rotation as a harmonic (frequency domain) problem, which leads to forces equal to time-averaged ones and decreases the simulation time considerably. Numerical results are validated using qualitative flow structure results from the neutron radiography visualization of tracer parti…
Trench-parallel spreading ridge subduction and its consequences for the geological evolution of the overriding plate: Insights from analogue models a…
2018
A series of 3-D asthenospheric-scale analogue models have been conducted in the laboratory in order to simulate the arrival of a spreading ridge at the trench and understand its effect on plate kinematics, slab geometry, and on the deformation of the overriding plate. These models are made of a two-layered linearly viscous system simulating the lithosphere and asthenosphere. We reproduce the progressive decrease in thickness of the oceanic lithosphere at the trench. We measure plate kinematics, slab geometry and upper plate deformation. Our experiments reveal that the subduction of a thinning plate beneath a freely moving overriding continent favors a decrease of the subduction velocity and…
A New Sampling Method for Spleen Stiffness Measurement Based on Quantitative Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Elastography for Noninvasive Assessment…
2014
In our study, we evaluated the feasibility of a new sampling method for splenic stiffness (SS) measurement by Quantitative Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Elastography (Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification (VTTQ)).We measured SS in 54 patients with HCV-related cirrhosis of whom 28 with esophageal varices (EV), 27 with Chronic Hepatitis C (CHC) F1–F3, and 63 healthy controls. VTTQ-SS was significantly higher among cirrhotic patients with EV (3.37 m/s) in comparison with controls (2.19 m/s,P<0.001), CHC patients (2.37 m/s,P<0.001), and cirrhotic patients without EV (2.7 m/s,P<0.001). Moreover, VTTQ-SS was significantly higher among cirrhotic patients without EV in comparison with bot…
Flexural behavior of external beam-column reinforced concrete assemblages externally strengthened with steel cages
2016
In this paper, an experimental study referring to the flexural behavior of full-scale external beam-column joints externally strengthened with steel angles and strips and subjected to cyclic reversal loading is presented. One control specimen and five other specimens having the same characteristics as the control specimen but strengthened with steel angles and strips along beams and columns, and characterized by different configurations of strengthening in the critical regions, were tested. The control specimen was designed with a weak column and strong beam to reproduce the most common cases of old frame structures in the Mediterranean area, which were designed only for gravity loads and a…
