Quasisymmetric Koebe uniformization with weak metric doubling measures

2020

We give a characterization of metric spaces quasisymmetrically equivalent to a finitely connected circle domain. This result generalizes the uniformization of Ahlfors 2-regular spaces by Merenkov and Wildrick. peerReviewed

Dirichlet approximation and universal Dirichlet series

2016

We characterize the uniform limits of Dirichlet polynomials on a right half plane. In the Dirichlet setting, we find approximation results, with respect to the Euclidean distance and {to} the chordal one as well, analogous to classical results of Runge, Mergelyan and Vitushkin. We also strengthen the notion of universal Dirichlet series.

On Higgs bundles over Shimura varieties of ball quotient type

2016

We prove the generic exclusion of certain Shimura varieties of unitary and orthogonal types from the Torelli locus. The proof relies on a slope inequality on surface fibration due to G. Xiao, and the main result implies that certain Shimura varieties only meet the Torelli locus in dimension zero.

Cluster tilting for one-dimensional hypersurface singularities

2008

In this article we study Cohen-Macaulay modules over one-dimensional hypersurface singularities and the relationship with the representation theory of associative algebras using methods of cluster tilting theory. We give a criterion for existence of cluster tilting objects and their complete description by homological methods, using higher almost split sequences and results from birational geometry. We obtain a large class of 2-CY tilted algebras which are finite dimensional symmetric and satisfy $\tau^2=\id$. In particular, we compute 2-CY tilted algebras for simple and minimally elliptic curve singularities.

Hitchhiker's guide to the fractional Sobolev spaces

2012

AbstractThis paper deals with the fractional Sobolev spaces Ws,p. We analyze the relations among some of their possible definitions and their role in the trace theory. We prove continuous and compact embeddings, investigating the problem of the extension domains and other regularity results. Most of the results we present here are probably well known to the experts, but we believe that our proofs are original and we do not make use of any interpolation techniques nor pass through the theory of Besov spaces. We also present some counterexamples in non-Lipschitz domains.

A Density Result for Homogeneous Sobolev Spaces on Planar Domains

2018

We show that in a bounded simply connected planar domain $\Omega$ the smooth Sobolev functions $W^{k,\infty}(\Omega)\cap C^\infty(\Omega)$ are dense in the homogeneous Sobolev spaces $L^{k,p}(\Omega)$.

Nonlinear scalar field equations with general nonlinearity

2018

Consider the nonlinear scalar field equation \begin{equation} \label{a1} -\Delta{u}= f(u)\quad\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N,\qquad u\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N), \end{equation} where $N\geq3$ and $f$ satisfies the general Berestycki-Lions conditions. We are interested in the existence of positive ground states, of nonradial solutions and in the multiplicity of radial and nonradial solutions. Very recently Mederski [30] made a major advance in that direction through the development, in an abstract setting, of a new critical point theory for constrained functionals. In this paper we propose an alternative, more elementary approach, which permits to recover Mederski's results on the scalar field equation. T…

On cubic elliptic varieties

2013

Let X->P^(n-1) be an elliptic fibration obtained by resolving the indeterminacy of the projection of a cubic hypersurface Y of P^(n+1) from a line L not contained in Y. We prove that the Mordell-Weil group of the elliptic fibration is finite if and only if the Cox ring of X is finitely generated. We also provide a presentation of the Cox ring of X when it is finitely generated.

On the inverse absolute continuity of quasiconformal mappings on hypersurfaces

2018

We construct quasiconformal mappings $f\colon \mathbb{R}^{3} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{3}$ for which there is a Borel set $E \subset \mathbb{R}^2 \times \{0\}$ of positive Lebesgue $2$-measure whose image $f(E)$ has Hausdorff $2$-measure zero. This gives a solution to the open problem of inverse absolute continuity of quasiconformal mappings on hypersurfaces, attributed to Gehring. By implication, our result also answers questions of V\"ais\"al\"a and Astala--Bonk--Heinonen.

Stabilization of heterodimensional cycles

2011

We consider diffeomorphisms $f$ with heteroclinic cycles associated to saddles $P$ and $Q$ of different indices. We say that a cycle of this type can be stabilized if there are diffeomorphisms close to $f$ with a robust cycle associated to hyperbolic sets containing the continuations of $P$ and $Q$. We focus on the case where the indices of these two saddles differ by one. We prove that, excluding one particular case (so-called twisted cycles that additionally satisfy some geometrical restrictions), all such cycles can be stabilized.
