Multivariate spatio-temporal data analysis methods usually assume fairly complete data, while a number of gaps often occur along time or in space. In air quality data long gaps may be due to instrument malfunctions; moreover, not all the pollutants of interest are measured in all the monitoring stations of a network. In literature, many statistical methods have been proposed for imputing short sequences of missing values, but most of them are not valid when the fraction of missing values is high. In this work functional principal component analysis (FPCA) based on quantile functions is proposed as an alternative to the classical approach, based on the functional mean. Quantile regression characterizes the conditional distribution of a response variable and, in particular, some features like the tails behavior; smoothing splines have also been usefully applied to quantile regression to allow for a more flexible modelling. This framework finds application in contexts involving multiple high frequency time series, for which the functional data analysis (FDA) approach is a natural choice. Macroautophagy is a degradative pathway that sequesters and transports cytosolic cargo in autophagosomes to lysosomes, and its deterioration affects intracellular proteostasis. Membrane dynamics accompanying autophagy are mostly elusive and depend on trafficking processes. RAB GTPase activating proteins (RABGAPs) are important factors for the coordination of cellular vesicle transport systems, and several TBC (TRE2-BUB2-CDC16) domain-containing RABGAPs are associated with autophagy. Report on the second EDNAP collaborative STR exercise

This report describes an inter-laboratory exercise completed on behalf of the European DNA Profiling (EDNAP) group. The exercise is one in a series designed to identify STR loci which could be used for harmonisation between participating European forensic science laboratories. Participants were asked to identify the alleles present in five bloodstains at the STR loci HUMTHO1 and HUMVWFA31/A. Two of the stains were prepared from mixtures of two different blood samples. There were no special instructions and each laboratory was requested to use the methodology normally employed for crime case investigations. We report investigations on the properties of nanoenvironments around single-GFP-mut2 proteins in trehalose-water matrixes. Single-GFPmut2 molecules embedded in thin trehalose-water films were characterized in terms of their fluorescence brightness, bleaching dynamics, excited state lifetime, and fluorescence polarization. For each property, sets of approximately 100-150 single molecules have been investigated as a function of trehalose content and hydration. International audience; A novel hardware accelerator for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) intra prediction is presented in this paper in order to reduce the computation complexity within this standard and to accelerate the concerned calculations. We propose a new pipelined structure that we called Processing Element (PE) to execute all angular modes, and we repeat it in five paths that our architecture composed of. We present also another structure to carry out the Planar mode. This architecture supports all intra prediction modes for all prediction unit sizes.
