A novel compound of triphenyltin(IV) with N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-L-ornithine causes cancer cell death by inducing a p53-dependent activation of the mi…
2017
The triphenyltin(IV) compound with N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-L-ornithine (Boc-Orn-OH), [Ph3Sn(Boc-Orn-O)], was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, solution1H,13C and119Sn NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. The organotin(IV) compound inhibited at very low micromolar concentrations the growth of human tumor cell lines HepG2 (hepatocarcinoma cells), MCF-7 (mammary cancer) and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) while it did not affect the viability of non-malignant human-derived hepatic cells Chang. The mechanism of the antiproliferative effect of Ph3Sn(Boc-Orn-O), investigated on human hepatoma HepG2 cells, was pro-apoptotic, being associated with externalization of plasma membrane …
New observations on a pottery fragment with incised deer from the Cova de lâOr (Beniarés, Alacant)
2007
The red external surface of a vessel, decorated with an incised group of deer from Cova de l’Or, has been long considered characteristic of the application of the almagra technique. However, the results of the elemental analysis of this fragment, compared with the results of another vessel with almagra decoration from the same site, call into question the application of this technique in the first vessel. In addition, searching for parallels for the schematic incised motifs of the vessel, in both ceramic decorations and rock art, we have concluded that rather than deer the represented animals are hinds.
Ceramic production at Selinunte (Sicily) during the 4th and 3rd century BCE: New archaeometric data through the analysis of kiln wastes
2018
Abstract A set of 37 overfired ceramic samples was collected from the dump of two kilns sited in the productive area FF1 in the acropolis of Selinunte (south western Sicily), being specifically active in the period 409–250 BCE. The ceramic samples were analysed by thin-section petrography and chemical analysis, with the aim to establish a valuable ‘reference group’ representative of the ceramic produced at Selinunte during the Punic phase. The petrographic and chemical analyses allowed to state that the ceramic manufactures from the kilns operating in the FF1 insula are characterized by rather homogeneous textural/compositional features. The daily-use common ware here produced is characteri…
Exploring the Background: Puzzles, Afterthoughts, and Replies
2017
In this paper I review the comments, and reply to the objections, put forward in the commentaries to my essay “Pre-conventions. A fragment of the Background”, published in issues n. 30 and 33 of Revus – Journal for Constitutional Theory and Philosophy of Law. My remarks fall under the following headings: 1. The social dimension of pre-conventions; 2. Pre-conventions and ordinary habits and dispositions; 3. Whether my examples are mistaken; 4. Reasons and causes; 5. Normative facts; 6. Whether abstract entities can be causes; 7. Are pre-conventions conditions of Lewis-conventions? 8. What can pre-conventions do for legal theory? 9. Whether I discharged my argumentative burdens. Raziskovanje …
Fragmentation of polycarbonate macroinitiators in solution and in the bulk state
1990
The diphenylethane initiator 3,4-diethyl-3,4-(p-methoxyphenyl)-hexane (T–OCH3) was synthesized. By cocondensation of bisphenol A or C and the bisphenol derivative (“T”) of T–OCH3 with phosgene, polycarbonate macroinitiators PC(TxA1-x) and PC(TxC1-x) with different compositions x were made. The thermal fragmentation of T–OCH3 and the copolycarbonates was investigated with and without a radical scavenger both in solution and in the bulk state. The primary dissociation of T–OCH3 is a monomolecular Arrhenius process with a characteristic temperature of T* (τ = 1h) = 140°C (τ: average life time of the intact molecule). When the radicals are not intercepted, the dissociation is excessively revert…
Reciprocal hybridization at different times between Senecio flavus and Senecio glaucus gave rise to two polyploid species in north Africa and south‐w…
2006
Summary • The analysis of hybrid plant taxa using molecular methods has considerably extended understanding of possible pathways of hybrid evolution. • Here, we investigated the origin of the tetraploid Senecio mohavensis ssp. breviflorus and the hexaploid Senecio hoggariensis by sequencing of nuclear and chloroplast DNA, and by analysis of the distribution of taxon-specific amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) fragments. • Both taxa originated from hybridization between the diploid Senecio flavus and Senecio glaucus. Whereas S. glaucus was the female parent in the origin of S. mohavensis ssp. breviflorus, S. flavus was the female parent in the origin of S. hoggariensis. • The dist…
In-medium jet shape from energy collimation in parton showers: Comparison with CMS PbPb data at 2.76 TeV
2014
Abstract: We present the medium-modified energy collimation in the leading-logarithmic approximation (LLA) and next-to-leading-logarithmic approximation (NLLA) of QCD. As a consequence of more accurate kinematic considerations in the argument of the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) fragmentation functions (FFs) we find a new NLLA correction O ð α s Þ which accounts for the scaling violation of DGLAP FFs at small x . The jet shape is derived from the energy collimation within the same approximations and we also compare our calculations for the energy collimation with the event generators PYTHIA 6 and Y A JEM for the first time in this paper. The modification of jets by the …
ATLAS measurements of the properties of jets for boosted particle searches
2012
Measurements are presented of the properties of high transverse momentum jets, produced in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1 and were collected with the ATLAS detector in 2010. Jet mass, width, eccentricity, planar flow and angularity are measured for jets reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with distance parameters R=0.6 and 1.0, with transverse momentum pT>300 GeV and pseudorapidity |η|<2. The measurements are compared to the expectations of Monte Carlo generators that match leading-logarithmic parton showers to leading-order, or next-to-leading-order, matrix elements. The generators describ…
Complementary online aerosol mass spectrometry and offline FT-IR spectroscopy measurements: Prospects and challenges for the analysis of anthropogeni…
2017
Abstract The aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) is well established in investigating highly time-resolved dynamics of submicron aerosol chemical composition including organic aerosol (OA). However, interpretation of mass spectra on molecular level is limited due to strong fragmentation of organic substances and potential reactions inside the AMS ion chamber. Results from complementary filter-based FT-IR absorption measurements were used to explain features in high-resolution AMS mass spectra of different types of OA (e.g. cooking OA, cigarette smoking OA, wood burning OA). Using this approach some AMS fragment ions were validated in this study as appropriate and rather specific markers for a c…
A study on the fragmentation of sulfuric acid and dimethylamine clusters inside an atmospheric pressure interface time-of-flight mass spectrometer
2022
Abstract. Sulfuric acid and dimethylamine vapours in the atmosphere can form molecular clusters, which participate in new particle formation events. In this work, we have produced, measured, and identified clusters of sulfuric acid and dimethylamine using an electrospray ionizer coupled with a planar-differential mobility analyser, connected to an atmospheric pressure interface time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ESI–DMA–APi-TOF MS). This set-up is suitable for evaluating the extent of fragmentation of the charged clusters inside the instrument. We evaluated the fragmentation of 11 negatively charged clusters both experimentally and using a statistical model based on quantum chemical data. Th…
