The adenine nucleotide content of rat liver during infusions of carbohydrates and polyols

Injection of large doses of fructose, sorbitol, or a mixture of glucose, fructose and xylitol in rats causes a drop of liver ATP, total adenine nucleotides and Pi and a rise of AMP, which is in agreement with data from the literature. These changes are considered as a transient disturbance of homeostasis by compounds which are rapidly phosporylated in the liver. This is confirmed by the fact that during continuous infusion of these and other compounds at doses of 1,5 g · kg−1 · h−1 there was no such change. Inhibition of gluconeogenesis by extracellular ATP in isolated rat hepatocytes.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of externally added ATP on gluconeogenesis by isolated hepatocytes from starved rats. High concentrations of extracellular ATP inhibited gluconeogenesis from lactate and pyruvate but not from glycerol or fructose. This inhibition was associated with an increase in intracellular adenosine contents. ADP, AMP, or adenosine but not guanosine 5'triphosphate, inosine 5' triphosphate, or adenine also inhibited gluconeogenesis. alpha, beta-Methylene-ATP, a nonmetabolizable structural analogue of ATP, did not affect the rate of gluconeogenesis. I DES sono stati utilizzati come solventi per lo studio di reazioni organiche, usate per la formazione di nuovi legami C-C. Nello specifico sono state studiate la reazione di Diels-Alder, e diverse reazioni di coupling C-C catalizzate da Pd. How hexoses and inhibitors influence the malate transport system in Zygosaccharomyces bailii

When grown in fructose or glucose the cells of Zygosaccharomyces bailii were physiologically different. Only the glucose grown cells (glucose cells) possessed an additional transport system for glucose and malate. Experiments with transport mutants had lead to the assumption that malate and glucose were transported by one carrier, but further experiments proved the existence of two separate carrier systems. Glucose was taken up by carriers with high and low affinity. Malate was only transported by an uptake system and it was not liberated by starved malate-loaded cells, probably due to the low affinity of the intracellular anion to the carrier. The levels of various sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, maltulose, kojibiose, isomaltose, raffinose, erlose and melezitose) as well as the glucose/fructose and glucose/water ratios were determined in different Spanish unifloral honey types (rosemary, orange blossom, lavender, sunflower, eucalyptus, heather, honeydew). To ascertain the most discriminant variables for seven types of Spanish commercial unifloral honeys, stepwise discriminant analysis was performed. Fifteen parameters [pH; water content; electrical conductivity; x, y, and L, chromatic coordinates from the CIE-1931 (xyL) color space; fructose; glucose; sucrose; maltose; isomaltose; maltulose; kojibiose; and the fructose/glucose and glucose/water ratios] were considered. Prof. Kitson’s comments give us the opportunity to clarify some issues that were not completely dealt with in our manuscript. In the study we reported a link between fructose intake and the severity of liver fibrosis in a cohort of Italian patients with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C (CHC) [1], with an association found for industrial, but not for fruit fructose intake. Our results were in keeping with data already reported in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [2,3].
