Analysis of Localized Surface Plasmon Resonances in Spherical Jellium Clusters and Their Assemblies

Due to multiple possible applications of physico-chemical properties of plasmonic metal nanoparticles and particle systems, there is high interest to understand the mechanisms that underlie the birth of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Here we studied the birth of the LSPR in spherical jellium clusters with the density of sodium and with 8, 20, 34, 40, 58, 92, 138, and 186 electrons, by using the linear response time-dependent density functional theory (lr-TDDFT). Josephson-based Threshold Detector for Lévy-Distributed Current Fluctuations

We propose a threshold detector for Lévy-distributed fluctuations based on a Josephson junction. The Lévy-noise current added to a linearly ramped bias current results in clear changes in the distribution of switching currents out of the zero-voltage state of the junction. We observe that the analysis of the cumulative distribution function of the switching currents supplies information on both the characteristics' shape parameter α of the Lévy statistics. Moreover, we discuss a theoretical model, which allows characteristic features of the Lévy fluctuations to be extracted from a measured distribution of switching currents. These chains were fabricated with as many as 2888 junctions, where one sample had a separately tunable link in the middle of the chain. Improving Karhunen-Loeve based transform coding by using square isometries

We propose, for an image compression system based on the Karhunen-Loeve transform implemented by neural networks, to take into consideration the 8 square isometries of an image block. The proper isometry applied puts the 8*8 square image block in a standard position, before applying the image block as input to the neural network architecture. Unraveling the LiNbO3 X-cut surface by atomic force microscopy and density functional theory

The ${\text{LiNbO}}_{3}$(2$\overline{1}\overline{1}0$) surface, commonly referred to as X-cut, is investigated by means of atomic force microscopy and first-principles calculations. Atomically resolved atomic force microscopy images show geometrical patterns not compatible with truncated bulk terminations. Fast Fourier transformation of the real-space images shows an oblique surface unit cell with lattice parameters of $a=0.75\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ nm, $b=0.54\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ nm, and $\ensuremath{\alpha}=94.{8}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$.
