Eine intermittierend auftretende cholestatische Lebererkrankung kann einen angeborenen Defekt im Bereich der Gallensaurentransportproteine offenlegen. Die Episoden konnen durch eine Schwangerschaft oder die Einnahme oraler Kontrazeptiva oder anderer Medikamente ausgelost werden. Wir beschreiben den Fall einer 22-jahrigen Mutter, bei der zwei Wochen nach Beginn der hormonalen Kontrazeption ein zunehmender Ikterus und schwerer Juckreiz auftrat. Bereits einige Monate zuvor hatte sie an Juckreiz im Rahmen einer intrahepatischen Schwangerschaftscholestase gelitten. Die Leberbiopsie zeigte eine Cholestase in unauffalligem Lebergewebe. Human papillomavirus infection in couples undergoing in vitro fertilization procedures: impact on reproductive outcomes.

A prospective study was performed to assess the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in 199 infertile couples and outcome of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). A highly statistically significant correlation between pregnancy loss rate (proportion of pregnancies detected by β-hCG that did not progress beyond 20 weeks) and positive HPV DNA testing in the male partner of infertile couples, compared with HPV negatives, was observed (66.7% vs. 15%).

Family characteristics influence children's behavioral development, but so do variations in schools, neighborhoods, and communities. We documented extrafamilial environmental effects by fitting maximum likelihood models to questionnaire data collected from double dyads consisting of twins and their classmate controls. The classmate controls in each double dyad were genetic strangers living in separate households, but they shared school, neighborhood, and community environments with their yoked twin pair and with one another. Little is known about the relationship between family characteristics and survival from childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), which we studied for the first time in German children.ALL cases were diagnosed between 1992 and 1994 and information on family characteristics was collected during a previously conducted nationwide case-control study. Children were followed for 10 years after diagnosis, as few disease-related events occur afterwards.
