1D ferrimagnetism in homometallic chains

1990

The magnetic properties of the cobalt zigzag chain Co(bpy)(NCS)2 (bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine) are discussed on the basis of an Ising‐chain model that takes into account alternating Landé factors. It is emphasized, for the first time, that a homometallic chain containing only one type of site can give rise to a 1D ferrimagneticlike behavior. Juan.J.Borras@uv.es , Eugenio.Coronado@uv.es

Fine tuning of the magnetic properties in Mn3-Co Ga Heusler films near the critical regime

2021

Abstract Tunability of structural and magnetic properties of Mn3-xCoxGa films is presented by Co substitution, where critical behavior emerges 0.37 ≤ x ≤ 0.56 exhibiting a transition from tetragonal hard ferrimagnetic with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) to a cubic soft ferrimagnetic phase with in-plane magnetic anisotropy (IMA). In the critical regime, coexisting state of tetragonal and cubic phases possesses significantly low coercive field (HC = 1.9 kOe) with relatively low saturation magnetization (MS = 100~150 emu/cc) while maintaining the PMA. From first-principles calculations, moments of two Mn sites do not change upon Co substitution. However, moments of substituted Co almo…

Magnetic Transitions in the Double Perovskite Sr2FeRe1-xFexO6(0≤X≤0.5)

2008

AbstractThe synthesis, structure, and magnetic and transport properties of solid solutions Sr2FeRe1-xFexO6 (0≤x≤0.5) are reported. A structural evolution in the solid solutions from a double perovskite to perovskite is observed with increasing Fe/Re disorder. Except for the metallic parent compound all members of the series are semiconducting. For the Fe-doped samples a change from ferrimagnetic interactions in the parent compound to a complex superposition of ferrimagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions was observed. The magnetic moment decreases with x, whereas the Curie temperature TC remains unaffected. The magnetic and Mössbauer data suggest Fe to act as a redox-buffer.

Impact of electromagnetic fields and heat on spin transport signals in Y3Fe5O12

2019

Exploring new strategies to perform magnon logic is a key requirement for the further development of magnon-based spintronics. In this paper, we realize a three-terminal magnon transport device to study the possibility of manipulating magnonic spin information transfer in a magnetic insulator via localized magnetic fields and heat generation. The device comprises two parallel Pt wires as well as a Cu center wire that are deposited on the ferrimagnetic insulator ${\mathrm{Y}}_{3}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$. While the Pt wires act as spin current injector and detector, the Cu wire is used to create local magnetostatic fields and additional heat, which impact both the magnetic configur…

Tuning up the Tc in Mn(II)Cu(II) bimetallic planes and design of molecular-based magnets

1998

Abstract A family of related compounds of general formula (PPh4)2Mn2[Cu((L)]3nH2O, where PPh4+ is the tetraphenylphosphonium cation and L stands for ortho-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba, 1), ortho-phenylene (N′-methyloxamidate) (oxamate) (Meopba, 2) and ortho-phenylenebis (N′-methyloxamidate) (Me2opba, 3), have been synthesized. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray Within absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra at both Mn and Cu K-edges for all three compounds, as well as their powder X-ray patterns, are consistent with a layered structure built up of parallel Mn11Cu11 two-dimensional honeycomb networks separated by PPh4+ cations. Within the antonic metallic la…

The EDTA Family of Molecular Based Ferromagnets

1991

The bimetallic compounds of the EDTA family offer a large variety of ferrimagnetic model systems in which the dimensionality as well as the exchange-anisotropy can be controlled with ease. This paper deals with the magneto-structural chemistry of this kind of materials, paying particular attention to both the low-dimensional magnetic behavior and the three-dimcnsional magnetic ordering.

Origin of the spin Seebeck effect in compensated ferrimagnets

2016

Magnons are the elementary excitations of a magnetically ordered system. In ferromagnets, only a single band of low-energy magnons needs to be considered, but in ferrimagnets the situation is more complex owing to different magnetic sublattices involved. In this case, low lying optical modes exist that can affect the dynamical response. Here we show that the spin Seebeck effect (SSE) is sensitive to the complexities of the magnon spectrum. The SSE is caused by thermally excited spin dynamics that are converted to a voltage by the inverse spin Hall effect at the interface to a heavy metal contact. By investigating the temperature dependence of the SSE in the ferrimagnet gadolinium iron garne…

Magnetic Properties Experiments on the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit at Gusev Crater

2004

The magnetic properties experiments are designed to help identify the magnetic minerals in the dust and rocks on Mars—and to determine whether liquid water was involved in the formation and alteration of these magnetic minerals. Almost all of the dust particles suspended in the martian atmosphere must contain ferrimagnetic minerals (such as maghemite or magnetite) in an amount of ∼2% by weight. The most magnetic fraction of the dust appears darker than the average dust. Magnetite was detected in the first two rocks ground by Spirit.

Magneto-structural studies on heterobimetallic malonate-bridged M(II)Re(IV) complexes (M = Mn, Co, Ni and Cu).

2010

The mononuclear Re(IV) compound of formula (PPh(4))(2)[ReBr(4)(mal)] (1) was used as a ligand to obtain the heterobimetallic species [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Co(dmphen)(2)]· MeCN (2), [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Ni(dmphen)(2)] (3), [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Mn(dmphen)(2)] (4a), [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Mn(dmphen)(H(2)O)(2)]·dmphen·MeCN·H(2)O (4b), [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Cu(phen)(2)]·1/4H(2)O (5) and [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)Cu(bipy)(2)] (6) (mal = malonate dianion, dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine). The structures of 2 and 5 (single-crystal X-ray diffraction) are made up of neutral [ReBr(4)(μ-mal)M(AA)] dinuclear units [AA = dmphen with M = Co (2) and AA = phen with M = Cu (5)] where the …
