Oxygen on Fe(100) and Fe(110)
1995
Investigations of the electronic and magnetic properties of oxygen adsorbed on magnetized iron films have been carried out by means of angle and spin resolving photoelectron spectroscopy. Iron, epitaxially grown on W(100) and W(110) crystals, served as the ferromagnetic substrate. Exchange splittings of the O 2px derived level have been detected, demonstrating a magnetic coupling between the chemisorbate and the iron layer. Variations of the exchange splitting have occurred as a function of the oxygen coverage, photon energy, and emission angle. High oxygen exposures have lead to a FeO overlayer at the surface.
Evidences for the Formation of Chromium in the Unusual Oxidation State Cr(IV)
1999
Abstract Magnetic measurements on Tl x Cr 5 Se 8 (0≤ x ≤1) reveal that stoichiometric TlCr 5 Se 8 is a three-dimensional antiferromagnet with a Neel temperature T N of about 55 K. In contrast, samples with a reduced Tl content show highly unusual magnetic properties that are without precedent in the literature of magnetically coupled systems: upon lowering the temperature from 300 K the susceptibility reaches a maximum at about 125 K and then steeply drops to a value comparable to that obtained at room temperature. The height of this maximum increases first with decreasing Tl abundance reaching its largest value at a composition Tl 0.2 Cr 5 Se 8 and then decreases again for samples with x 3…
Ab initio modelling of the effects of varying Zr (Ti) concentrations on the atomic and electronic properties of stoichiometric PZT solid solutions
2017
Abstract Lead zirconate titanate Pb(ZrxTi1−x)O3 solid solution is considered as one of the most advanced ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials. Consequent variation of Zr (Ti) concentrations significantly affects the atomic and electronic properties of PZT structures. To perform ab initio modelling of different morphologies for lead zirconate titanate, we are using approach of hybrid density functional B3PW as implemented in CRYSTAL14 computer code. In this study, we are performing large-scale calculations of such PZT parameters as optimized lattice constants, atomic charges and bond populations, as well as band structure (e.g., band gap) and density of states.
Chaotic dynamics in an unstirred ferroin catalyzed Belousov–Zhabotinsky reaction
2009
Abstract The Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction is the best known example of far from equilibrium self-organizing chemical reaction. Among the many dynamical behaviors that this reaction can exhibit, spatio-temporal chaos attracted particular interest, both for the ferroin and cerium catalyzed systems. In recent years transient chaos was found in the cerium catalyzed BZ reaction, when conducted in batch and unstirred reactors. It was established that the chaotic oscillations, originated by the coupling among chemical kinetics and transport phenomena, appeared and disappeared following a Ruelle–Takens–Newhouse scenario. In this Letter, we show results about the ferroin catalyzed system condu…
Alternating Ferro- and Antiferromagnetic Interactions in a Chainlike CuII Coordination Polymer

Synthesis, characterisation, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of one-dimensional oxalato-bridged metal(II) complexes with 3-hydroxypyridin…
2001
One-dimensional oxalato-bridged metal(II) compounds of formula [M(-ox)(L)2]n [L = 3-hydroxypyridine (pyOH) or isoquinoline (isq)] have been synthesised and characterised by FT-IR spectroscopy, TG-DTA techniques, variable-temperature magnetic measurements and X-ray diffraction methods. The complexes [M(-ox)(pyOH)2]n [M= Co (1), Ni (2)] are isomorphous and crystallise in the orthorhombic space group Pnab. The compounds [M(-ox)(isq)2]n [M= Co (3), Ni (4), Cu (5)] are also isomorphous and belong to the monoclinic space group C2/c. Crystal structures consist of zig-zag chains in which cis-[M(L)2] 2 + units are sequentially bridged by bis-bidentate oxalato ligands with intrachain M···M distances …
Unique direct synthesis of cyanide-bridged Fe2Cu2 molecular squares by destruction of sodium nitroprusside
2009
Abstract The one-pot reaction of copper powder, sodium nitroprusside, ammonium thiocyanate and 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) in acetonitrile solution at ambient conditions of air and water yields the novel heterometallic [Fe2Cu2(bpy)6(μ-CN)4(NCS)2]2[Fe(CN)5(NO)](NCS)2·5H2O complex 1, which has been structurally and magnetically characterized. The most prominent feature of this complex is the unique tetranuclear Fe 2 II Cu 2 II squares comprised [Cu(bpy)NCS]+ and [Fe(bpy)2]2+ corners with CN edges. The Cu⋯Cu and Fe⋯Fe separations are ∼6.72 and ∼7.73 A, respectively. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility study revealed that a very weak antiferromagnetic coupling is active between Cu(II) ce…
Functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles: influence of ligand addition sequence and pH during their continuous hydrothermal synthesis
2015
In this study we report various new efficient ways to synthesize and modify in situ magnetite (Fe3O4) iron oxide nanoparticles (NPs). Thanks to an apparatus especially developed for this new method of grafting, the NPs have been synthesized and functionalized by 3,4-dihydroxyhydrocinnamic acid (DHCA) or 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (LDOPA) in one step and under hydrothermal conditions using varying concentration ratios ([organic molecules]/[ferrous and ferric ions]). The organic molecules were added before or after the NP synthesis. The addition of these organic molecules modifies the structure, the morphology, the oxidation degree and the growth of the crystallites. Adding the organic mol…
Voltammetry of microparticles, scanning electrochemical microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy applied to the study of dsDNA binding and damage…
2014
Abstract Microparticulate deposits of scorpiand-like azamacrocyclic receptors (L1–L4) attached to graphite electrodes provide distinctive voltammetric features in contact with aqueous DNA solutions at biological pH, denoting the formation of DNA surface complexes. This voltammetry allows for screening dsDNA, ssDNA and G-Quadruplex DNA using L4-modified electrodes. Scanning electrochemical microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy examination of dsDNA fibers attached to the substrate electrode in contact with DMSO solutions containing ferrocene and receptor indicate that a synergic effect is exerted between electrochemically generated ferrocenium ion and the receptors so that they increas…
Magnetic Excitations in Polyoxometalate Clusters Observed by Inelastic Neutron Scattering: Evidence for Anisotropic Ferromagnetic Exchange Interacti…
1999
The ground-state properties of the tetranuclear Co2+ cluster [Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]10- were investigated by combining specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization measurements with a detailed inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study on a fully deuterated sample of K10[Co4(H2O)2(PW9O34)2]·22H2O. As a result of the single ion anisotropy of the octahedral Co2+, the appropriate exchange Hamiltonian of the Co4 spin cluster is anisotropic. INS turns out to be essential for the determination of energy splittings in the ground state resulting from the coupling. Besides the energy pattern, INS provides information about the wave functions of the split ground-state components of the spin c…
