Mildly denaturing conditions induce bovine ?-crystallin, the major structural lens protein, to self-assemble into fibrillar structures in vitro. The natural dipeptide L-carnosine has been shown to have potential protective and therapeutic significance in many diseases. Atrial fibrillation signatures on intracardiac electrograms identified by deep learning

BACKGROUND: Automatic detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) by cardiac devices is increasingly common yet sub-optimally groups AF, flutter or tachycardia (AT) together as ‘high rate events’. This may delay or misdirect therapy. OBJECTIVE: We hypothesized that deep learning (DL) can accurately classify AF from AT by revealing electrogram (EGM) signatures. METHODS: We studied 86 patients in whom the diagnosis of AF or AT was established at electrophysiological study (25 female, 65 ± 11 years). Abstract We aimed to identify factors easily collected at admission in patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) that were associated with early recurrence, so as to guide clinicians’ decision-making about hospitalization in routine practice. A new method for the in situ determination of phospholipids after thin-layer separation

Abstract A very sensitive method has been devised for the in situ determination of phospholipids after thin-layer chromatographic separation, which enabled us to investigate the phospholipid content of erythrocytes and ATPase preparations. The transcription factor Pax 6 is expressed in precursor cells during embryonic CNS development, and it plays an important role in the regulation of cell proliferation and neuronal fate determination. Pax 6-expressing cells are also present in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus and subventricular zone/rostral migratory stream, regions in which neuronal precursors exist during adult life. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) belongs to a family of ligand-activated nuclear receptors and its ligands are known to control many physiological and pathological situations. Its role in the central nervous system has been under intense analysis during the last years. Here we show a novel function for PPARγ in controlling stem cell expansion in the adult mammalian brain.
