In Cystic fibrosis (CF) disease nonsense mutations in the CFTR gene cause the absence of the CFTR protein expression and a more severe form of the disease. About 10% of patient affected by CF show a nonsense mutation. A potential treatment of this alteration is to promote translational readthrough of premature termination codons (PTCs) by translational readthrough inducing drugs such as Ataluren (1). El presente trabajo, que se dividió en tres partes, pretendió caracterizar dos aspectos importantes en la fisiopatología tras un infarto agudo de miocardio (IAM) como son la obstrucción microvascular (OMV) y la formación de la cicatriz fibrótica. La principal estrategia tras un IAM es la reperfusión temprana de la arteria infartada. Sin embargo, mediante técnicas de imagen realizadas en pacientes con IAM, se ha comprobado que este procedimiento no asegura una correcta reperfusión a nivel microvascular dando lugar al fenómeno conocido como OMV. Normal tissue damage limits the efficacy of anticancer therapy. For anthracyclines, the clinically most relevant adverse effect is cardiotoxicity. The mechanisms involved are poorly understood and putative cardioprotectants are controversially discussed. Here, we show that the lipid-lowering drug lovastatin protects rat H9c2 cardiomyoblasts from doxorubicin in vitro. Protection by lovastatin is related to inhibition of the Ras-homologous GTPase Rac1. It rests on a reduced formation of DNA double-strand breaks, resulting from the inhibition of topoisomerase II by doxorubicin. Doxorubicin transport and reactive oxygen species are not involved. We aim to investigate if five simple serum biomarkers applied to PWH can optimize a care pathway to identify significant liver fibrosis defined by transient elastography (TE).
