Synthesis and pharmacological characterization of beta2-adrenergic agonist enantiomers: zilpaterol.
2009
The beta-adrenergic agonist 1 (zilpaterol) is used as production enhancer in cattle. Binding experiments of separated enantiomers on recombinant human beta(2)-adrenergic and mu-opioid receptors and functional studies showed that the (-)-1 enantiomer accounts for essentially all the beta(2)-adrenergic agonist activity and that it exhibits less affinity toward the mu-opioid receptor than (+)-1, which is a mu-opioid receptor antagonist. X-ray crystallography revealed the absolute configuration of (-)-1 to be 6R,7R.

Algebra Without Context Is Empty, Visualizations Without Concepts Are Blind
2018
In the acquisition and formalization of mathematical concepts, the transition between algebraic and geometric representations and the use of different modes of representation contextualizes abstract algebra. Regrettably, the role of geometry is often limited to the visualization of algebraic facts and figurative memory aids. Such visualizations are blind for the underlying concepts, since transitions between concepts in different representations assume the existence of symbols, language, rules and operations in both systems. The history of mathematics offers contexts to develop geometrical language and intuition in areas currently being taught in school in a purely algebraic fashion. The ex…
Modular P-Chirogenic Phosphine-Sulfide Ligands: Clear Evidence for Both Electronic Effect and P-Chirality Driving Enantioselectivity in Palladium-Cat…
2015
Using the ephedrine methodology, modular stereoselective syntheses of a new class of P-chirogenic phosphines bearing a sulfur-chelating arm (P*,S-hybrid ligand) are described. A first series of syntheses based on a Fries-like rearrangement of P-chirogenic phosphinite-boranes, which are prepared from 2-bromobenzyl or 2-bromophenethyl alcohol and are mediated by metal–halide exchange, have been performed. This rearrangement affords phosphine-boranes stereospecifically with an o-hydroxyalkylphenyl substituent. The latter residue is subsequently converted into a sulfur-containing group. In a second series, the stereoselective syntheses were achieved according to a new strategy involving a react…
Computationally efficient dynamical analysis of optically driven injection-locked GaAs FET oscillators
1995
A computer-aided simulation technique for the dynamical analysis of a class of GaAs FET optically-driven injection-locked oscillators (ODILO's) is presented. By combining a measurement-derived nonlinear model of the illuminated transistor with a phasor-domain analysis method, a first-approximation - but phenomenologically complete - differential model of the synchronized oscillator is derived. Since amplitude and phase of waveform evolutions are directly addressed and evaluated in a stroboscopic-time scale, the calculation of the transient response to modulated input signals can be done in a more user-friendly and computationally efficient manner than possible through conventional time-doma…
Dal quadro al modello virtuale: una ricostruzione tridimensionale interattiva dell'Albergheria di Palermo nel 1749
2011
This study suggests a virtual three-dimensional reconstruction of a large urban portion of Palermo Historical Centre modelled on an isometrical view of the 17th century entitled Descrizzione del distretto parrocchiale dell’Albergheria fatta l’anno 1749. It is a painting on canvas that has been kept inside the parish of S.Nicolò all’Albergheria, and which in latter days has been taken by the Museum of Palermo Diocese where it is presently exposed to the public. The work presents different levels of interest for the reading of urban ancient morphology which now has disappeared and for the right information of road textures, blocks and monuments represented there. The digital elaboration that …
Optimisation of chromatographic resolution using objective functions including both time and spectral information.
2014
The optimisation of the resolution in high-performance liquid chromatography is traditionally performed attending only to the time information. However, even in the optimal conditions, some peak pairs may remain unresolved. Such incomplete resolution can be still accomplished by deconvolution, which can be carried out with more guarantees of success by including spectral information. In this work, two-way chromatographic objective functions (COFs) that incorporate both time and spectral information were tested, based on the peak purity (analyte peak fraction free of overlapping) and the multivariate selectivity (figure of merit derived from the net analyte signal) concepts. These COFs are s…
No-core configuration-interaction model for the isospin- and angular-momentum-projected states
2016
[Background] Single-reference density functional theory is very successful in reproducing bulk nuclear properties like binding energies, radii, or quadrupole moments throughout the entire periodic table. Its extension to the multi-reference level allows for restoring symmetries and, in turn, for calculating transition rates. [Purpose] We propose a new no-core-configuration-interaction (NCCI) model treating properly isospin and rotational symmetries. The model is applicable to any nucleus irrespective of its mass and neutron- and proton-number parity. It properly includes polarization effects caused by an interplay between the long- and short-range forces acting in the atomic nucleus. [Metho…
Chemical constituents of the root wood of Erythrina sacleuxii and determination of the absolute configuration of suberectin
2020
Phytochemical investigation on the root wood of Erythrina sacleuxii (Leguminosae) led to the isolation of nine secondary metabolites (1-9). Compound 1 was isolated from the genus Erythrina for the first time. The pure compounds were identified on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses, while their absolute configurations were determined based on chiroptical measurements. Compounds 5 and 6 showed weak antifungal activity against Pyricularia oryzae with MIC values of 20 µg/mL.
