Time Use and Food Taxation in Spain

We evaluate the welfare impact of changing the VAT on food in a context in which households can produce home meals for own consumption that compete with meals served in restaurants. Home production of meals requires the combination of food and time inputs. The fiscal treatment in home production of both the inputs and the final product differs from market production of meals, generating different channels of inefficiency. We calibrate a simple general-equilibrium model for the Spanish economy that identifies three types of consumers according to their income, and simulate the effects of some experiments related to how food is taxed. ARC A computerized system for urban garbage collection

In this paper we present ARC a computerized system developed for urban garbage collection. The package is intended to help the planners in the design of efficient collection routes and to facilitate the study and evaluation of alternatives concerning issues such as the type and number of vehicles, frequency of collection and type and location of refuse containers. The final product is a “user friendly” system designed to be used by the planners without outside assistance.

One of the main goals of 21st century chemistry is to replace environmentally hazardous processes with energy efficient routes allowing to totally avoid the use and production of harmful chemicals and to maximise the quantity of raw material that ends up in the final product. Selective photocatalytic conversions will play a major role in this evolution and this account shows how photocatalysis is offering an alternative green route for the production of organics.
Photoredox-Catalyzed Four-Component Reaction for the Synthesis of Complex Secondary Amines.

The one-pot sulfonylation/aminoalkylation of styrene derivatives furnishing substituted γ-sulfonylamines was accomplished through a photoredox-catalyzed four-component reaction. Besides one molecule of water and the sodium counterion of the sulfinate, all atoms of the starting materials are transferred to the final product, rendering this process highly atom-efficient. The operationally simple protocol allows for the simultaneous formation of three new single bonds (C-S, C-N, and C-C) and therefore grants rapid access to structurally diverse products.
Technological development and functional properties of an apple snack rich in flavonoid from mandarin juice

Abstract The development of functional foods has evolved considerably over the years. The technological ability to produce a food with enhanced physiologically active compounds has grown significantly. The aim of this work was to study the incorporation of the beneficial compounds from mandarin low pulp juice into an apple snack using vacuum impregnation technology and to test if the final product exhibited the functional properties and components of both raw materials. Forty grams of the final product made using mandarin juice homogenized at 15 MPa could provide the same quantity of hesperidin as 250 mL of fresh mandarin juice. International audience; On-surface synthesis provides a very promising strategy for creating stable functional structures on surfaces. In the past, classical reactions known from solution synthesis have been successfully transferred onto a surface. Due to the presence of the surface, on-surface synthesis provides the potential of directing the reaction pathway in a manner that might not be accessible in classical solution synthesis. In this work, we present evidence for an acetylene polymerization from a terminal alkyne monomer deposited onto calcite (10.4). TiO2-Based Photocatalysis for Organic Synthesis

A major aim of the contemporary chemistry is to replace old environmentally hazardous processes with new, energy efficient routes allowing to reduce or totally avoid the use and production of harmful chemicals and to maximise the quantity of raw material that ends up in the final product. This chapter gives an account of TiO2-based selective photocatalysis as a green synthetic tool for the production of organics. Some case studies of the most common transformations carried out by means of photocatalytic reactions are illustrated in a midway perspective between photochemistry and organic chemistry.
