Begleitende Inhaltsstoffe in 22 OTC-Fischöl- und Lebertranpräparaten: Cholesterin, Schwermetalle und Vitamin A

Fischolkapseln werden von selbstmedizierenden Patienten in zunehmendem Mase eingenommen. Hier wurde der Frage nachgegangen, ob 22 kommerziell erhaltliche Fischol- und Lebertranzubereitungen Begleitsubstanzen enthalten, deren Menge unter Umstanden nachteilig fur den Patienten sein konnten. Gemessen wurden: Cholesterin mit der Gaschromatographie, Schwermetalle mittels Atomabsorption und Vitamin A mit der hochauflosenden Flussigkeitschromatographie (HPLC). Sowohl der Cholesterin-als auch der Schwermetallgehalt lagen in unbedenklichen Bereichen. Optimal diet composition for European whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus): carbohydrate stress and immune parameter responses

Abstract A feeding trial was conducted on the European whitefish to study the effects of replacing fish meal with fish oil and corn starch on the stress response and immune system parameters. Nine diets with varying levels of fish meal (FM; 38–86%), fish oil (FO; 2–22%) and corn starch (CS; 0–33%), and fixed levels of wheat meal (10%) and vitamin–mineral premix (2%) were formulated and replicates were allocated among 25 tanks following the D-optimality criteria. The effects of carnitine on the growth of sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax L., fry

Carnitine treatment has an appreciable effect on the hatchery-reared sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, fry. The administration of the laevorotatory isomer (1-carnitine) which is engaged in the transport of the acyl and acetyl groups through the mitochondrial membrane, stimulating lipid metabolism, increases the growth rate and the protein content of the treated fry. The dextrorotatory isomer (d-carnitine), which is an antagonist of the 1-carnitine, has an opposite effect on the growth and metabolism of the treated fry.

Mosaic activating mutations in GNA11 and GNAQ are associated with phakomatosis pigmentovascularis and extensive dermal melanocytosis

Common birthmarks can be an indicator of underlying genetic disease but are often overlooked. Mongolian blue spots (dermal melanocytosis) are usually localized and transient, but they can be extensive, permanent, and associated with extracutaneous abnormalities. Co-occurrence with vascular birthmarks defines a subtype of phakomatosis pigmentovascularis, a group of syndromes associated with neurovascular, ophthalmological, overgrowth, and malignant complications. Vacuum impregnation as a tool to introduce biopreservatives in gilthead sea bream fillets (Sparus aurata)

Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the possible technological uses of biopreservation and vacuum impregnation techniques to extend shelf life of gilthead sea bream fillets. Two impregnation media were studied: a solution containing lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and a nisin solution. Vacuum impregnation was carried out at 4 °C. Fillets were immersed in a vessel containing the impregnation solution and vacuum was applied during 5 min. After this time atmospheric pressure was restored leaving samples under the liquid for 5 min more. Abstract Trophically transmitted parasites may increase their transmission efficiency by altering the behaviour of infected hosts to increase their susceptibility to predation by target hosts (the next host in the life cycle). The parasite Diplostomum spathaceum (Trematoda) reduces the vision of its fish intermediate hosts: its metacercariae lodge themselves in the eyes of fish and induce cataract formation, which gives them the opportunity to affect fish behaviour. Effectiveness of cover crops to reduce loss of soil organic matter in a rainfed vineyard

Cover crops (CCs) minimize the loss of soil in permanent cropping systems where the soil is usually bare due to intense tillage or overuse of herbicides. The topsoil, the richer layer in soil organic carbon and organic matter (OM), is affected by water erosion. Nature-based solutions appear as a suitable option for sustainable farming.
