Carbon nanotube supported aluminum porphyrin-imidazolium bromide crosslinked copolymer
2022
The increased awareness of the catastrophic consequences caused by the accumulation of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere has generated a large mobilization aimed at CO2 mitigation. Herein, in the spirit of the transformation of a waste as CO2 into value added products, we propose an efficient preparation of two different hybrid systems based on aluminum chloride tetrastyrylporphyrin (TSP-Al-Cl) and 1,4-butanediyl-3,3′-bis-1-vinylimidazolium dibromide copolymerized in the presence (MWCNT-TSP-AlCl-imi) and in absence (TSP-AlCl-imi) of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for the CO2 utilization in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates. The so-prepared materials have been thoroughly characte…
HONO Emissions from Soil Bacteria as a Major Source of Atmospheric Reactive Nitrogen
2013
From Soil to Sky Trace gases emitted either through the activity of microbial communities or from abiotic reactions in the soil influence atmospheric chemistry. In laboratory column experiments using several soil types, Oswald et al. (p. 1233 ) showed that soils from arid regions and farmlands can produce substantial quantities of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrous acid (HONO). Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria are the primary source of HONO at comparable levels to NO, thus serving as an important source of reactive nitrogen to the atmosphere.
Periacetabular Cortical and Cancellous Bone Mineral Density Loss After Press-Fit Cup Fixation
2012
The impact of total hip arthroplasty on strain adaptive bone remodeling has been extensively analyzed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. In this study, we present a prospective computed tomography-assisted study of periacetabular cortical and cancellous bone mineral density (in milligrams of calcium hydroxyapatite [CaHA] per milliliter, or mgCaHA/mL) changes 10 days and 1, 3, and 7 years after press-fit cup implantation for 38 hips in vivo. Cancellous bone mineral density decreased by O -63% ventral and O -85% dorsal to the cup; cortical bone mineral density, by O -22% ventral and O -18% dorsal to the cup. The presented periacetabular strain adaptive bone mineral density data are the most…
Osteosynthesetechniken bei proximalen Humerusfrakturen
2001
1996
The technique of light-guided intubation is based on the principle that a source of light brought into the trachea results in clearly visible and defined transcutaneous illumination, while no illumination can be observed with the light source in the oesophagus (Fig. 1-7). The Trachlight is a reintroduced instrument for this alternative intubation technique. The essential developments are: a length-adjustable stylet with a removable internal metal wire, a brighter light source, a stable handle with tight fixation of the endotracheal tube, and a time-dependent warning device to avoid extended intubations. One hundred twenty patients (Mallampati I. ASA I-III) were included in the study (conven…
Expectation of sensory stimulation modulates brain activation during visual motion stimulation.
2005
The differential effects of visual hemifield motion stimulation during fixation of a stationary target were compared under two conditions: fixation straight ahead without any further instructions and fixation straight ahead with attention shifted to the "dark hemifield." Data from nine right-handed volunteers revealed that striate and extrastriate right hemispheric visual areas exhibited larger activations during left hemifield motion stimulation when attention was shifted to the right dark hemifield. Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) coordinates (26, -98, -4) of the additional clusters activated in the latter condition corresponded best to the kinetic occipital region, which is known t…

Glutamatergic projection from the nucleus incertus to the septohippocampal system
2012
Abstract Recent findings support a relevant role of the nucleus incertus in the control of the hippocampal activity through the modulation of theta rhythm. Previous studies from our group have shown that this nucleus is a critical relay between reticularis pontis oralis and the medial septum/diagonal band, regarded as the main activator and the pacemaker of the hippocampal oscillations, respectively. Besides, the nucleus incertus is highly linked to activated states related to the arousal response. The neurotransmission of the nucleus incertus, however, remains uncertain. Only GABA and the neuromodulator relaxin 3 are usually considered to be involved in its contribution to the septohippoca…
Randomized, Double-Blind, Clinically Controlled Trial of Intranasal Calcitonin Treatment in Patients with Hip Fracture
2002
The objective of this study was to evaluate the short-term outcome of intranasal calcitonin treatment of elderly hip fracture patients on pain, bone loss, functional recovery, and length of hospital stay. In addition, we wanted to compare the effect of calcitonin with placebo on fusion of hip fractures treated with internal fixation using a screw or a nail. In a randomized, double-blind, clinically controlled trial, 260 independently living patients (aged 65 years or older) with acute hip fracture were randomly assigned to intranasal calcitonin 200 IU daily for 3 months or matching placebo nasal spray. Analyses were completed on an intention-to-treat basis. Three months after the operation,…
Genome-Wide Analyses Identifies Known and New Markers Responsible of Chicken Plumage Color
2020
Simple Summary In order to assess sources of variation related to Polverara breed plumage color (black vs. white), we carried out genome-wide analyses to identify the genomic regions involved in this trait. The present work has revealed new candidate genes involved in the phenotypic variability in local chicken populations. These results also contribute insights into the genetic basis for plumage color in poultry, and confirm the great complexity of the mechanisms that control this trait. Abstract Through the development of the high-throughput genotyping arrays, molecular markers and genes related to phenotypic traits have been identified in livestock species. In poultry, plumage color is a…
