Numerical study of the October 2007 flash flood in the Valencia region (Eastern Spain): the role of orography

2010

Abstract. A torrential rain event took place in the Valencia region in October 2007, mainly affecting coastal areas and nearby mountains in the center-south of the region, in northern Alicante province. More than 400 mm in 24 h were recorded at some stations in these areas, with lower accumulations in the rest of the region where rainfall was less intense. In the first part of this work a description of the meteorological situation is given. The synoptic frame of the event is characterised by an advection of easterly maritime winds across the Western Mediterranean, lasting for at least 48 h, driving moist air towards the Iberian Peninsula eastern coast and the presence of an upper level iso…

Combined effect of nutrient and flashing light frequency for a biochemical composition shift in Nannochloropsis gaditana grown in a quasi-isoactinic …

2020

Artificial lighting may be an interesting opportunity for the cultivation of microalgae as an alternative to natural sunlight. In particular, light emitting diodes (LEDs) can be employed to tailor the lighting to the microalgal culture in a controlled mode in order to create flashing light. In order to establish the effect of the flashing frequency on growth and biochemical composition of a model microalga, a quasi-isoactinic reactor, in which the light distribution is almost homogeneous, was set up. In this work, it was employed for the cultivation of the heterokont Nannochloropsis gaditana in two growth media with limiting and nonlimiting nutrients. The combined effect of nutrient concent…

The role of physical activity in the link between menopausal status and mental well-being

2020

OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between menopausal status and mental well-being, and whether this relationship varies as a function of physical activity (PA). METHODS Based on a hormonal analysis and bleeding diary, women aged 47 to 55 were categorized as pre (n = 304), early peri (n = 198), late peri (n = 209), or postmenopausal (n = 387). Mental well-being was assessed using the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, the International Positive and Negative Affect Schedule Short Form, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. PA was self-reported and categorized as low, medium, and high. Associations between variables were analyzed using multivariate linear regression adjuste…

O069. Menstrual cycle affects cortical excitability differently in females with migraine and in healthy controls: a new perspective by cross modal so…

2015

The sound-induced flash illusions (SIFI) represent a valid tool to explore multimodal perception and are critically dependent on visual and acoustic cortical excitability [1, 2]. In a previous study [3], we observed a significant reduction of illusions in migraine patients with respect to healthy controls, probably due to a condition of visual cortex hyperexcitability. Aim of the present study was to evaluate SIFI perceptions in healthy women and patients with menstrual migraine and to describe the effects of cyclical change of steroid hormones and cortical responsiveness.

Monthly precipitation and runoff series of Begura de Salma River (Mallorca, Spain): January 2015-October 2018

2020

Here we provide the data set obtained as described in detail in Estrany et al. (2020, doi:10.5194/nhess-2019-304); a brief description is presented below. A hydrometric gauging station is located where the Begura de Salma River enters Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a village located in the northeastern part of Mallorca island (Spain). The station was built by the water authority in the 1970s. After years of abandonment, in 2015 the MEDhyCON Research Group installed within the gauge house a Hobo Water Level U20L-04, which measures the water stage by 1-minute readings, accumulating 15-minute average values. The station is located at the very beginning of the concrete channel that takes the river…

Menopausal symptoms and cardiometabolic risk factors in middle-aged women : A cross-sectional and longitudinal study with 4-year follow-up

2023

Objective To study associations of menopausal symptoms with cardiometabolic risk factors. Study design A cross-sectional and longitudinal study of a representative population sample of 1393 women aged 47–55 years with a sub-sample of 298 followed for four years. The numbers of vasomotor, psychological, somatic or pain, and urogenital menopausal symptoms were ascertained at baseline through self-report. Their associations with cardiometabolic risk factors were studied using linear regression and linear mixed-effect models. Models were adjusted for age, menopausal status, body mass index, the use of hormonal preparations, education, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Main outcome measures Card…

Perpetrator Trauma in Television Crime Series We Hunt Together

2022

Crime fiction scholarship increasingly focuses on trauma in contemporary crime narratives but has largely neglected to investigate perpetrator trauma. This article contributes to filling this gap by exploring perpetrator trauma in We Hunt Together (2020), a British television crime series written by Gaby Hull, that portrays the consequences of perpetrator trauma on a former child soldier from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Babeni (Baba) Lenga, waiting for permanent residency in the UK. Viewers learn about his violent past through flashbacks and his involvement with Frederica ‘Freddy’ Lane which precipitates Baba’s present return to violence. Informed by crime fiction studies, l…

Single Event Upsets Induced by Direct Ionization from Low-Energy Protons in Floating Gate Cells

2017

Floating gate cells in advanced NAND Flash memories, with single-level and multi-level cell architecture, were exposed to low-energy proton beams. The first experimental evidence of single event upsets by proton direct ionization in floating gate cells is reported. The dependence of the error rate versus proton energy is analyzed in a wide energy range. Proton direct ionization events are studied and energy loss in the overlayers is discussed. The threshold LET for floating gate errors in multi-level and single-level cell devices is modeled and technology scaling trends are analyzed, also discussing the impact of the particle track size. peerReviewed
