FLIPPING THE ESL CLASSROOM.STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNICATION AND INCLUSION
2015
One of the most interesting and recent teaching approach that is attracting insistently both academic and teaching environments, is the Flipped Classroom, or Inverted Classroom. The class, where there is a turning over of the activities with the purpose of making both lessons and individual study more interesting and productive is “flipped”. This approach is fundamentally based on three issues: 1) a conscious use of technologies for learning/teaching purposes, 2) a revision of learning times, 3) the importance of the educational relationship. The flipped is also an answer to the teacher's aim to solve problems related to the learning process, that means, to create the best condition through…

Investigating the affordances of a flipped mathematics classroom from an activity theoretical perspective
2020
Abstract Flipped Classroom as a pedagogical framework has gained popularity at secondary and tertiary levels of mathematics education, but there is a lack of research based on a solid theoretical foundation. This article considers the flipped mathematics classroom from the perspective of affordances and cultural–historical activity theory. The empirical background is based on semi-structured interview data from eight first-year computer-engineering students following 1 year of flipped classroom teaching. The thematic analysis of the data indicates that the flipped format offers a range of affordances at various levels of the activity system. This article advances research on affordances for…

Flipped Language teaching. Lingua, comunicazione, apprendimento
2022
The volume intends to offer a contribution to language teaching research starting from the issues related to the teaching / learning of foreign languages at school. From an examination of the cultural and regulatory context of reference, from the need to find a correspondence between the linguistic objectives defined by national policies and the European recommendations in the field of language education, from the definition of the concept of 'linguistic competence' as outlined by the CEFR, an operational proposal is articulated focused on the methodology of Flipped teaching aimed at promoting the use and transmission of the LS, through precise lines of language teaching planning. All the…

Possibilità di adattamento dell’approccio della Flipped Classroom (FC) al Universal Design for Learning (UDL). La percezione dei docenti universitari
2019
This research is about Flipped Classroom (FC) implementation in university context and aims to understand how this approach can be used in a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) environment and thus can help in creating inclusive spaces of teaching and learning. This work is an exploratory sequential design and will compare Flipped Classroom’s characteristics at university and UDL ones, in order to try and integrate these two approaches in the instructional practice. During the first phase of the study, in-depth semi-structured interviews were undertaken with academics that actually use Flipped Classroom. Then, in the second phase, a structured questionnaire built on interviews’ retrieved da…

With the aim of improving academic results and promoting learning in knowledge and skills that is meaningful and in line with the principles of the European Higher Education Area, flipped classroom is applied in combination with other active methodologies, whose philosophy is summed up as "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn" (B. Franklin). The academic results and the results of an ad-hoc survey reveal a satisfactory achievement of the objectives of the innovation.
