Narrating well-being in the context of precarious prosperity: An account of agency framed by culturally embedded happiness and gender beliefs

This article sets out to critically examine the accounts of well-being produced by a middle-aged Swiss woman living in precarious prosperity. By taking on a feminist reading of the narrative on well-being, the article challenges the taken for granted assumption of the powerful agent in thriving societies. Insights from literature on happiness in nations and gender beliefs enabled addressing the woman’s capability to exert agency, while acknowledging the influence of the context in which narratives are embedded. Narratives by women managers about spousal support for their careers

In this article we present a qualitative study of spousal support for the careers of women managers. The research material consists of the narratives of 25 women managers in Finland. The study has two main implications. Firstly, unlike previous studies, we use a narrative approach to demonstrate that a woman manager's career and spousal support are experienced as ambiguous and evolving over the career. The support was constructed by the women managers as flourishing, irrelevant, deficient or inconsistent. The aim of this work is to establish correlations between the values of the Brabender Farinograph and the E6 Haubert Flourgraph. We analyzed two types of flours, white flour with additives (WF add) and brown flour with additives (BF add). The following parameters were varied: water absorption capacity, development time, the stability, the degree of softening and the quality number of wheat and potato flour mixture. A statistical analysis was made from linear regression equations. The obtained values for the E6 Flourgraph are comparable with Farinograph values and units. Well-being research and its measurement have grown in the last two decades. The objective of this study was to adapt and validate the Flourishing Scale in a sample of Spanish adults. This was a cross-sectional study using a non-probabilistic sample of 999 Spanish general adult population participants. The psychometric properties of the scale were analysed from an exploratory and confirmatory perspective.
