Ar stroncija daļēji aizvietotu hidroksilapatītu pārklājumu raksturošana

Darbā apkopota informācija par hidroksilapatītu īpašībām, to izpētes metodēm un pārklājuma sintēzi ar plazmas elektrolītisko oksidāciju. Eksperimentālajā daļā paraugi analizēti, izmantojot skenējošo elektronmikroskopiju, elementu procentuālais saturs paraugos noteikts ar rentgenfluorescences spektrometriju un funkcionālās grupas raksturotas ar Furjē transformācijas infrasarkano spektrometriju. Veikti eksperimenti, lai noskaidrotu iegūto pārklājumu luminiscentās īpašības.

Improving point matching on multimodal images using distance and orientation automatic filtering

International audience; Speed Up Robust Features SURF is one of the most popular and efficient methods used for image registration task. In order to achieve a correct registration, a good matching of feature point is required. However in the case of multimodal images, the high and non-linear intensity changes between different modalities led to many outliers (mismatching of detected points) and consequently a fail in the registration. Background: The 7-ketocholesterol (7KC)-induced cell death has some characteristics of apoptosis and is associated with polar lipid accumulation. So, we investigated the effects of the broad-spectrum caspase inhibitor z-VAD-fmk and of the caspase-2 inhibitor z-VDVAD-fmk on lipid profile evaluated by staining with Nile Red (NR). Tracing keratin evolution: catalog, expression patterns and primary structure of shark (Scyliorhinus stellaris) keratins.

We have studied individual keratins of an elasmobranch, the shark Scyliorhinus stellaris (the lesser-spotted dogfish). From various shark tissues, notably skin and stomach, cytoskeletal proteins were isolated and then separated by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Using complementary keratin blot-binding assays and immunoblotting, among these proteins we identified a variety of type I and type II keratins. According to their tissue-specific expression, we distinguished Is and IIs keratins from IE and IIE keratins ("S" and "E" from "simple epithelial" and "epidermal", respectively). At reduced temperature, endocytic membrane traffic is blocked in multivesicular carrier endosomes in rat cardiac myocytes.

Temperatures around 20 degrees C are known to block degradation of endocytosed material by preventing its transport to lysosomes, accordingly reduced temperature has been widely used to define endosomes. Newer studies have revealed that the low temperature block is proximal to perinuclear late endosomes, but it is not clear whether the block is already in early endosomes, or whether the traffic proceeds to multivesicular carrier endosomes which mediate transport from early to late compartments. Optical-sectioning improvement in two-color excitation scanning microscopy

We present a new beam-shaping technique for two-color excitation fluorescence microscopy. We show that by simply inserting a properly designed shaded-ring filter in the illumination beam of smaller wavelength, it is possible to improve the effective optical sectioning capacity of such microscopes by 23%. Such an improvement is obtained at the expense of only a very small increasing of the overall energy in the point-spread-function sidelobes. The performance of this technique is illustrated by a numerical imaging simulation.

Scanning near-field optical microscopy using semiconductor nanocrystals as a local fluorescence and fluorescence resonance energy transfer source

Local fluorescence probes based on CdSe semiconductor nanocrystals were prepared and tested by recording scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) images of calibration samples and fluorescence resonance energy transfer SNOM (FRET SNOM) images of acceptor dye molecules inhomogeneously deposited onto a glass substrate. Thousands of nanocrystals contribute to the signal when this probe is used as a local fluorescence source while only tens of those (the most apical) are involved in imaging for the FRET SNOM operation mode. For microorganisms in particular, viability is a term that is difficult to define and a state consequently difficult to measure. The traditional (and gold standard) usage equates viability and culturability (i.e., the ability to multiply) but the process of determining culturability is often too slow. Single molecules probe local density of modes (LDOS) around photonic nanostructures

International audience; According to Fermi's golden rule, the fluorescence decay rate is directly proportional to the projected local density of photonic modes (LDOS) at the molecule location. The relevant LDOS depends on the molecule orientation. In this paper, the direct measurement of the fluorescence lifetime near gold dot photonic structures is investigated and compared to calculated LDOS. Detailed analysis of the decay channels is presented on the basis of numerical simulations.

Dissection of keratin dynamics: different contributions of the actin and microtubule systems.

It has only recently been recognized that intermediate filaments (IFs) and their assembly intermediates are highly motile cytoskeletal components with cell-type- and isotype-specific characteristics. To elucidate the cell-type-independent contribution of actin filaments and microtubules to these motile properties, fluorescent epithelial IF keratin polypeptides were introduced into non-epithelial, adrenal cortex-derived SW13 cells.
