Reaction of lithium enediolates with perfluoroketene dithioacetals. Synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl γ-dicarboxylic acid derivatives

2004

The reaction of perfluoroketene dithioacetals with dianions of carboxylic acids proceeds through the substitution of the vinylic fluoride. The preparative value of this reaction depends strongly on the reaction and work-up conditions, the optimisation of which led to use LDA as a base and multiple extraction techniques. The overall process may be considered as a formal synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl γ-dicarboxylic acid derivatives.

Polymers, Ferroelectric Liquid Crystalline Elastomers

2002

Ferroelectric materials are a subclass of pyro- and piezoelectric materials. They are very rarely found in crystalline organic or polymeric materials because ferroelectric hysteresis requires enough molecular mobility to reorient molecular dipoles in space. So semicrystalline polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is nearly the only known compound. On the contrary, ferroelectric behavior is very often observed in chiral liquid crystalline materials, both low molar mass and polymeric. Ferroelectric LC-elastomers represent an interesting class of material because they combine the ordering of liquid crystalline ferroelectric phases and the rubber elasticity of polymer networks. Switching of the electr…

Absorption spectrum of the f(A1g) ← X(Eg), a(F2g) electronic transition of OsF6

1997

Abstract The absorption spectrum of the visible band of OsF 6 has been recorded using a commercial spectrophotometer. The first vibronic assignments for this band have been realized using the analogy with the d ← X transition of IrF 6 . Some vibronic parameter values are derived.

Determination of fluoride after direct separation from acid medium by collection of its volatile compounds

1989

A method is proposed for determination of fluoride by separation in acid medium followed by ion-selective electrode measurement. The separation is done at temperatures up to 200 °C, without any previous treatment of the sample, in a PTFE reactor designed to ensure the complete absorption of volatile fluoride compounds. The distillation variables (temperature, time and acid concentration) have been optimized and the interference of other various species in the separation step has been studied. The method has been applied to geological samples. The results obtained are statistically satisfactory.

ChemInform Abstract: Highlights on Contemporary Recognition and Sensing of Fluoride Anion in Solution and in the Solid State

2013

The fluoride anion has recently gained well deserved attention among the scientific community for its importance in many fields of human activities, but also for concerns on its effect on health and the environment. Although surprisingly overlooked in systematic studies in the past, fluoride has nowadays become a topical target in the field of anion recognition. A multitude of scientific reports are published every year where the establishment of efficient and specific interaction with fluoride is sought in polar and aqueous media. Here, the emphasis is directed to a detailed description of the most interesting contemporary studies in the field, with a particular focus given to those publis…

Photodissociation of Formyl Fluoride in Rare Gas Matrixes

2006

Photodissociation of formyl fluoride (HCOF) is studied in Ar, Kr, and Xe matrixes at 248 and 193 nm excitation by following spectral changes in the infrared absorption spectra. In all matrixes, the main photodissociation products are CO/HF species, including CO-HF and OC-HF complexes and thermally unstable CO/HF species (a distorted CO/HF complex or a reaction intermediate), which indicate negligible cage exit of atoms produced via the C-F and C-H bond cleavage channels. However, the observation of traces of H, F, CO, CO(2), F(2)CO, FCO, and HRg(2)(+) (Rg = Kr or Xe) in Kr and Xe matrixes would imply some importance of other reaction channels too. The analysis of the decay curves of the pre…

Anion Receptors Based on a Quinoline Backbone

2007

2-Amido-8-urea substituted quinoline derivatives are potent receptors for the binding of halide or benzoate anions in chloroform. The selectivity and affinity of the receptors for fluoride can be tuned by variation of the substituents at the receptor side chains. Computational considerations show that the cleft of the receptors provides space for effective binding of F–, but not bigger anions.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Determination of fluoride in rocks, soils, and fluoride-bearing minerals by separation using direct distillation in sulfuric acid medium and spectrop…

1989

Abstract An analytical method for fluoride determination in geological samples is proposed. It is based on a previous fluoride separation by distillation with a Teflon reactor. The variables that influence distillation quantitation (temperature, time, and acid concentration) are optimized. The influence of some species on fluoride recovery during distillation are studied, and conditions to avoid this influence are suggested. Fluoride determination is carried out by means of a spectrophotometric method [La(III)-F−-Alizarin complexone system] (N. T. Crosby, A. L. Dennis, and J. G. Stevens, Analyst (London), 1968, 93, 643–652). The method is applied to the analysis of soils, rocks, and fluorid…

A macrocyclic diurea derived from diphenylether

2010

Abstract A new 16-membered cyclic diurea was synthesized and tested as potential receptor for fluoride. 1 H and 19 F NMR spectroscopy revealed an unexpected deprotonation of both urea groups after initial 1:1 binding. A single crystal X-ray structure shows bifurcated hydrogen bonds to two DMSO molecules.
