Institutional logics and social enterprises: Entry mode choices of foreign hospitals in China

2020

When social enterprises, being defined by their social mission and profitability, internationalize, they need to\ud respond to institutional logics in the host country. ”I’ll get a scooter if my grades go up” : What motivates Finnish pupils to study English

2009

Yleisesti tiedostetaan motivaation merkitys kielenoppimisessa. Motivaatio onkin yksi tutkituimmista alueista vieraiden kielten oppimisessa ja opettamisessa. Motivaation rakenne ja syyt vaihtelevat suuresti riippuen kontekstista; eri paikoissa eri aikoina suoritetut tutkimukset antavat hyvin erilaisia tuloksia. Siksi motivaatiota on tärkeätä tutkia jatkuvasti. Sen lisäksi halusimme antaa oppilaille mahdollisuuden kertoa omin sanoin, millaisten asioiden he koke…

History Matters: Colonial‑Based Connectivity and Foreign Headquarter Location Choice

2022

AbstractIn this study, we argue that European countries’ extensive relationships with former colonies represent a location factor that attracts foreign headquarter investments. The strategic role of foreign headquarters as coordinators, opportunity detectors, and global bridgeheads makes the location choice of headquarter activities sensitive to historical-based institutional connections. Drawing on a sample of 2230 foreign headquarter investments in Europe, we find that the stronger the combined effect of historical connections and current economic relationships with former colonies, the higher the probability of attracting headquarter investment projects. We refer to this combined charact…

The European External Action Service: Torn apart between several principals or acting as a smart 'double-agent'?

2014

Also available from the publisher at: http://www.jcer.net/index.php/jcer/article/view/605/494 Open Access The European External Action Service (EEAS) is a hybrid and compound institutional actor in the EU’s multi-level administration with delegated authority from the member states (MS) to conduct the EU’s external action. Substantial competences, notably in the field of Neighbourhood and Trade policies, as well as Development and Cooperation remain under the control of the European Commission (Commission). At the same time, also Members of the European Parliament (EP) are more clearly voicing their in…

De-Europeanizing at the UN? The Impact of the International Economic Crisis on Italian Foreign Policy

2015

Among the mechanisms identified in the literature on the Europeanization of Italian foreign policy, the idea of belonging to a group or "we-feeling" plays an important role. By shaking the idea of European solidarity, the international economic crisis has promoted greater Euroscepticism in Italy, suggesting that the previously recorded Europeanization of Italian foreign policy could eventually also be affected. The article explores whether and how much Italian foreign policy has been de-Europeanized by comparing Italian behavior at the UN before and after the crisis. This arena has the advantage of allowing an analysis of behavior on the most important foreign policy issues, but it is also …

La entonación del español hablado por italianos

2011

Are Energy Market Integrations a Green Light for FDI?

2015

This paper studies the effect of energy market integration (EMI) on foreign direct investment (FDI). EMIs diminish energy uncertainty and price volatility in the host country and affect FDI through two channels: first, by harmonizing energy prices and, second, by reducing price dispersion. FDI may, as a result, increase both within and outside the EMI area, through energy stability mechanisms and price mechanisms, respectively. An empirical application on a global dataset including bilateral FDI data, during 2003-2012, using the gravity equation, shows that the integration of Portugal and Spain's electricity market in 2007 increased the amount of FDI's participants. Additionally, a positive…
