Generic Data Models for Semantic e-Government Interoperability : Literature Review
2014
Interoperability of e-government systems is suggested to increase transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, and customer service in the public sector. Generic data models are often seen as a way for achieving especially semantic interoperability. To assess how the contemporary data models support semantic egovernment interoperability, we reviewed literature on data models suggested for the public sector in light of four features: standard modelling language, entityrelationship modelling, vocabulary for data exchange and methodology. The review contributes previous research by introducing a four-feature framework for assessing capability of e-government data models to enhance interoperability…

More Relevant Today Than Ever: Past, Present and Future of Media Performance Research
2020
Media performance is constitutive for functioning democracies. But what is the situation regarding media performance in the age of digitalisation? And how can media performance continue to be assured under the current difficult economic conditions for the news industry? In this essay, we give a short overview of how media performance research has developed from the introduction of private broadcasting to the spread of the Internet and social media. In the course of this development, the initial focus of media performance research on media content has broadened to include media quality from the user perspective. We show how the contributions to this thematic issue relate with existing lines …
Sosiaali-, terveys- ja kuntoutusalan opettajien digitaalinen osaaminen
2020
Tiivistelmä Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kuvata sosiaali-, terveys- ja kuntoutusalan (soteku) opettajien (n=388) digitaalista osaamista osana TerOpe-hanketta. Aineisto kerättiin DigCompEdu CheckIn Self-reflection Tool -itsearviointityökaluun perustuvalla mittarilla, joka sisälsi 21 (strukturoitua) väittämää ja yhden avoimen kysymyksen. DigCompEdu-viitekehyksen kuutta osa-aluetta (ammatillinen sitoutuminen, digitaaliset resurssit, opettaminen ja oppiminen, arviointi, oppijoiden voimaannuttaminen ja oppijoiden digitaalisen osaamisen tukeminen) käytettiin sekä määrällisen aineiston keskiarvomuuttujien muodostamisessa että laadullisen aineiston deduktiivis-induktiivisen analyysin runkona. Opet…
Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency: state of the art and research challenges
2012
This review discusses a potential vascular basis for multiple sclerosis (MS). The idea that MS could be related to vascular disease is not new, with the first reports describing connections between veins and MS plaques dating from the 19th century. The venous abnormalities found in MS patients, the socalled chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency, are currently interpreted as congenital venous malformations. Catheter venography is regarded as the gold standard to assess these lesions, while other tests, such as Doppler sonography and magnetic resonance venography, are much less accurate. Importantly, a relationship between venous pathologies and MS has not yet been proven, especially reg…
Graphic hyperboles and critical dystopia in Miguel Brieva's drawings
2020
De novo CCND2 mutations leading to stabilization of cyclin D2 cause megalencephaly-polymicrogyria-polydactyly-hydrocephalus syndrome
2014
Activating mutations in genes encoding phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-AKT pathway components cause megalencephaly-polymicrogyria-polydactyly-hydrocephalus syndrome (MPPH, OMIM 603387)(1-3). Here we report that individuals with MPPH lacking upstream PI3K-AKT pathway mutations carry de novo mutations in CCND2 (encoding cyclin D2) that are clustered around a residue that can be phosphorylated by glycogen synthase kinase 313 (GSK-3 beta)(4). Mutant CCND2 was resistant to proteasomal degradation in vitro compared to wild-type CCND2. The PI3K-AKT pathway modulates GSK-3 beta activity(4), and cells from individuals with PIK3CA, PIK3R2 or AKT3 mutations showed similar CCND2 accumulation. CCND…
“Is This an Advertisement or a Personal Account?” : Commercialisation of Lifestyle Blogs in Finland
2015
When blogging first appeared on the map of social media in the mid-1990s, the majority of bloggers were male writing for example about the developments of the online world, or if they were political reporters, looking for a new platform to publish their perhaps more controversial work. Today many blogs fall into the category of lifestyle blogs, which have thousands, sometimes even tens of thousands of individual readers per month throughout the world. In fact, professional blogging is one of the fastest growing phenomena online. It is driven mostly by relatively young women and promoted by the commercialisation of the blogging world, also known by bloggers as “the blogosphere”. During the p…
Challenges and Solutions in Ethnographic Research : Ethnography with a Twist
2020
Challenges and Solutions in Ethnographic Research: Ethnography with a Twist seeks to rethink ethnography ‘outside the box’ of its previous tradition and to develop ethnographic methods by critically discussing the process, ethics, impact and knowledge production in ethnographic research. This interdisciplinary edited volume argues for a ‘twist’ that supports openness, courage, and creativity to develop and test innovative and unconventional ways of thinking and doing ethnography. ‘Ethnography with a twist’ means both an intentional aim to conduct ethnographic research with novel approaches and methods but also sensitivity to recognize and creativity to utilize different kinds of ‘twist mome…
Analyzing online search patterns of music festival tourists
2020
Music festivals, as cultural events that induce tourism flows, intermediate both the cultural and travel experience. The present study analyzes online search behavior of potential attenders to a music festival. We hypothesize that the search process reveals latent patterns of behavior of cultural tourists planning to attend music festivals. To this end, information from Google Trends on queries related to three popular music festivals is used to build a network of search topics. Based on it, alternative exponential random graph model specifications are estimated. Findings support the general result of mediated information flows: music festivals induce planning and traveling queries. Howeve…
