Isolation of seven polymorphic microsatellites in Ophioblennius atlanticus atlanticus (Perciformes, Blenniidae)

2005

We isolated and characterized seven polymorphic microsatellite loci of Ophioblennius atlanticus atlanticus (Valenciennes, 1836) using an optimized protocol to construct and screen a microsatellite-enriched genomic library. The analysis of variability was performed in 16 specimens from Faial Island (Azores, Portugal). The mean number of alleles was 8.71 ± ± ± 2.43 and the level of expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.764 to 0.903. The total exclusionary probabilities using these loci for the first and the second parent were 0.985 and 0.998, respectively, suggesting that these microsatellites are a useful tool for large-scale parentage analysis.

Nelle forme degli insediamenti

2013

Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of iNOS expression in human chondrocytes

2009

Chondrocytes are important for the development and maintenance of articular cartilage. However, both in osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) chondrocytes are involved in the process of cartilage degradation and synthesize important immunomodulatory mediators, including nitric oxide (NO) generated by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS). To uncover the role of iNOS in the pathomechanisms of OA and RA, we analyzed the regulation of iNOS expression using immortalized human chondrocytes as a reproducible model. In C-28/I2 chondrocytes, iNOS expression was associated with the expression of the chondrocyte phenotype. Peak induction by a cytokine cocktail occurred between 6 and 8h and dec…

Climate driven life histories: the case of the Mediterranean Storm petrel

2014

Seabirds are affected by changes in the marine ecosystem. The influence of climatic factors on marine food webs can be reflected in long-term seabird population changes. We modelled the survival and recruitment of the Mediterranean storm petrel (Hydrobates pelagicus melitensis) using a 21-year mark-recapture dataset involving almost 5000 birds. We demonstrated a strong influence of prebreeding climatic conditions on recruitment age and of rainfall and breeding period conditions on juvenile survival. The results suggest that the juvenile survival rate of the Mediterranean subspecies may not be negatively affected by the predicted features of climate change, i.e., warmer summers and lower rai…

On the design of a high current power supply for superconducting magnet

2002

The purpose of the article is the description, considerations of design and presentation of experimental results of a high current (1000 A) and low voltage (up to 15 V) converter for the excitement of superconducting corrector magnets in particle accelerators. The power source, which is based on a ZVT converter, presents high efficiency, small output ripple, excellent regulation of line, and fulfilment of the EMC normative (VDE 0871 A).

Signal sequences modulate the immunogenic performance of human hepatitis C virus E2 gene

2005

Abstract Envelope protein E2 of human hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an attractive component of a prototype HCV vaccine. Delivered by DNA immunogens, E2 evokes specific immune response of Th1-type, failing to induce either considerable antibody production, or T-helper cell proliferation. We aimed at modulating the immunogenic performance of E2 gene by changing the mode of protein expression in eukaryotic cells. Plasmids were constructed encoding full-length E2 and nonstructural protein 1 (p7) fused to either 13 or 38 C-terminal amino acids (aa) of HCV E1 that contain second hydrophobic segment of E1 stop-transfer signal, or a complete E1 stop-transfer signal with duplicated second hydrophobic s…

Controlling rotational dynamics of molecules by shaped ultra-short laser pulses

2004

This manuscript presents various studies falling under the set of themes of coherent control. We establish, as well theoretically as in experiments, the possibility of finely handling the rotational dynamics of linear molecules. In order to operate this handling, the ultra-short pulses are shaped by a pulse shaper. Its principle and its installation are described in a detailed way. The rotational dynamics of the linear nitrogen molecule (N2) is handled while exploiting the relative excitation between the even and odd rotational components of the wavepacket in weak mode of field. That, we chose a periodic phase modulation well defined of the exiting pulse. A temporal analysis comes to clarif…

La terre en commun. Plaidoyer pour une justice foncière

2019

Source document verification in the Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I Registry

2011

Purpose The Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I (MPS I) Registry is an international observational database that tracks the natural history and the outcomes of patients with MPS I. The Registry was a regulatory requirement following the approval of laronidase enzyme replacement therapy for MPS I in 2003. All data are collected voluntarily after informed consent from the patient or family. Data are checked through queries, monthly reviews, and electronic audits to identify missing, inconsistent, or invalid data. This analysis sought to determine overall data accuracy in the Registry through source document verification (SDV). Methods Two phases of SDV were performed. In each phase, Registry data we…
