Rapid parameter determination of discrete damped sinusoidal oscillations

2020

We present different computational approaches for the rapid extraction of the signal parameters of discretely sampled damped sinusoidal signals. We compare time- and frequency-domain-based computational approaches in terms of their accuracy and precision and computational time required in estimating the frequencies of such signals, and observe a general trade-off between precision and speed. Our motivation is precise and rapid analysis of damped sinusoidal signals as these become relevant in view of the recent experimental developments in cavity-enhanced polarimetry and ellipsometry, where the relevant time scales and frequencies are typically within the ∼1 − 10 µs and ∼1 − 100 MHz ranges, …

Algorithm To Calculate Heart Rate By Removing Touch Errors And Algorithm Analysis

2018

Heart rate is one of the important physiological parameter to measure the stability of the health. This study shows analysis of a proposed algorithm to calculate heart rate with miss touch errors to make it more efficient. Android Smart phone with good quality camera has come to reach of common people and has become one of the most necessary and powerful device for today and of course, for future generation. We can use its powerful features to solve or assess heart state monitoring through capturing necessary data in the form of image. Mobile camera has a photo emitting diode and a photo detector. Light source illuminates the tissue and photo-detector calculates the small intensity variatio…

A nonstationary model for the analysis of transient speech signals

1987

In this correspondence, a model is presented for the analysis of transient speech signals, which is based on a sum of the impulsive responses corresponding to a number of poles with time-dependent parameters. The aim of this analysis is to obtain discriminative features of the different transient elements of speech.

Space-variant simultaneous detection of several objects by the use of multiple anamorphic fractional-Fourier-transform filters.

2010

A fractional correlator that is based on the anamorphic fractional Fourier transform is defined. This new, to our knowledge, correlator has been extended to work with multiple filters. The novelty introduced by the suggested system is the possibility of the simultaneous detection of several objects in different parts of the input scene (when anamorphic optics are dealt with), thereby permitting an independent degree of space invariance in two perpendicular directions. Computer experiments as well as experimental optical implementation are presented.

Lock-In Signal Post-Processing Techniques in Infra-Red Thermography for Materials Structural Evaluation

2013

This paper describes the potential of off-line thermographic signal processing by means of Lock-In Correlation algorithms, in order to implement structural health monitoring and stress analysis techniques. Thermal datasets acquired by infrared thermocameras are locked-in and correlated numerically with opportune reference signals, and amplitude and phase values of various harmonics retrieved by means of a Fast Fourier Transform and time averaging based filtering. This information is then processed for NDT defect probing and for evaluating the Thermoelastic Effect induced temperature changes. Two case studies in particular are discussed, implementing the proposed signal lock-in processing: a…

Radon–Wigner display: a compact optical implementation with a single varifocal lens

2008

A new optical implementation of the Radon‐Wigner display for one-dimensional objects is presented, making use of the fractional Fourier transform approach. The proposed setup makes use of only two conventional refractive elements: a cylindrical lens and a varifocal lens. Although the exact magnifications cannot be achieved simultaneously for all the fractional transforms, an optimum design can be obtained through balancing the conflicting magnification requirements. Experimental results are obtained with a commercially available progressive addition lens. For comparison, computer simulations are also provided. © 1997 Optical Society of America

Photonic fractional Fourier transformer with a single dispersive device

2013

In this work we used the temporal analog of spatial Fresnel diffraction to design a temporal fractional Fourier transformer with a single dispersive device, in this way avoiding the use of quadratic phase modulators. We demonstrate that a single dispersive passive device inherently provides the fractional Fourier transform of an incident optical pulse. The relationships linking the fractional Fourier transform order and scaling factor with the dispersion parameters are derived. We first provide some numerical results in order to prove the validity of our proposal, using a fiber Bragg grating as the dispersive device. Next, we experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of this proposal by us…

Continuous Refocusing for Integral Microscopy with Fourier Plane Recording

2018

Integral or light field imaging is an attractive approach in microscopy, as it allows to capture 3D samples in just one shot and explore them later through changing the focus on particular depth planes of interest. However, it requires a compromise between spatial and angular resolution on the 2D sensor recording the microscopic images. A particular setting called Fourier Integral Microscope (FIMic) allows maximizing the spatial resolution for the cost of reducing the angular one. In this work, we propose a technique, which aims at reconstructing the continuous light field from sparse FIMic measurements, thus providing the functionality of continuous refocus on any arbitrary depth plane. Ou…

In-Fiber Fractional Signal Processing: Recent Results and Applications

2018

The implementation of mathematical operators using photonic signal processing –as for example, conventional differentiators and integrators– is particularly well suited to overcome the speed and bandwidth limitations of electronics. In the Laboratory of Fiber Optics of the University of Valencia we work on the development of in-fiber time-domain fractional operators and their applications. In the last years we have made some specific proposals to perform photonic fractional differentiation (PFD), photonic fractional integration (PFI), photonic fractional Hilbert transform (PFHT), and photonic fractional Fourier transform (PFFT), using fiber-based technologies. Recently, we have been able to…

Phase error analysis of clipped waveforms in surface topography measurement using projected fringes

2021

Abstract When working with the method of projected fringes outside the optical laboratory one often encounters the problem of uncontrollable ambient light. This might cause saturation of the camera which in turn results in clipping of the fringes. Since standard theories describing phase-shifting techniques assume the projected fringes to be purely sinusoidal, such clipping will result in measurement error. In this paper a detailed analysis of this problem is given, and relations between phase errors, the amount of fringe clipping and the number of phase steps are found. Moreover, the phase difference between the clipped and the unclipped fringes is described. This investigation is based on…
