Gabor-like systems in ${cal L}^2({bf R}^d)$ and extensions to wavelets

2008

In this paper we show how to construct a certain class of orthonormal bases in starting from one or more Gabor orthonormal bases in . Each such basis can be obtained acting on a single function with a set of unitary operators which operate as translation and modulation operators in suitable variables. The same procedure is also extended to frames and wavelets. Many examples are discussed.

Evolutionary relationships among the members of an ancient class of non-LTR retrotransposons found in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

1998

We took advantage of the massive amount of sequence information generated by the Caenorhabditis elegans genome project to perform a comprehensive analysis of a group of over 100 related sequences that has allowed us to describe two new C. elegans non-LTR retrotransposons. We named them Sam and Frodo. We also determined that several highly divergent subfamilies of both elements exist in C. elegans. It is likely that several master copies have been active at the same time in C. elegans, although only a few copies of both Sam and Frodo have characteristics that are compatible with them being active today. We discuss whether it is more appropriate under these circumstances to define only 2 elem…

Closing in on the toxic domain through analysis of a variant Clostridium difficile cytotoxin B

1995

Strain 1470 is the standard typing strain for serogroup F of Clostridium difficile containing both toxin genes, toxA-1470 and toxB-1470. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based approach to the sequencing of the total toxB-1470 gene identified an open reading frame (ORF) of 7104 nucleotides. In comparison with the previously sequenced toxB of C. difficile VP10463, the toxB-1470 gene has 16 additional nucleotides, 13 within the 5'-untranslated region and three within the coding region. The M(r) of ToxB-1470 is 269,262, with an isoelectric point (IP) of 4.16. The equivalent values for ToxB are M(r) 269,709 and IP 4.13. In comparison with ToxB, ToxB-1470 differs primarily in the N-terminal regi…

La Seconda Vita dell'Ambiente Costruito

2021

The contribution frames the essays studies research and projects published in issue 9 of AGATHÓN on ‘The SecondLife of the Built Environment’ an interesting topic for universities businesses and industry. Climate changes excessive use of soil renewable resources ever-increasing production of waste the current pandemic emergency and the global socio-economic crisis have in fact entered our daily life. Even if these are tragic issues they can be somehow seized as an opportunity to rethink the way we live and our world. In this ‘revolutionary’ (Floridi 2020) and ‘polycrisis’ (Losasso 2020) context specifically referring to the building industry the Academy the Research and Industry worlds are called to give answers – based on sustainability and the principles of the Green Deal but also and mostly of the new Bauhaus – that can encourage reconsiderations and re-orientations of processes and products new projects on places buildings objects and materials able to positively affect the governance of the global change that our planet and humanity need able to give a ‘new life’ to the built and/or transformed environment at any scaleSettore ICAR/12 - Tecnologia Dell'Architettura

Boundedness and compactness of operators related to time-frequency analysis

2018

Molecular characterization of an inducible p-coumaric acid decarboxylase from Lactobacillus plantarum: gene cloning, transcriptional analysis, overex…

1997

By using degenerate primers designed from the first 19 N-terminal amino acids of Lactobacillus plantarum p-coumaric acid decarboxylase (PDC), a 56-bp fragment was amplified from L. plantarum in PCRs and used as a probe for screening an L. plantarum genomic bank. Of the 2,880 clones in the genomic bank, one was isolated by colony hybridization and contained a 519-bp open reading frame (pdc gene) followed by a putative terminator structure. The pdc gene is expressed on a monocistronic transcriptional unit, which is transcribed from promoter sequences homologous to Lactococcus promoter sequences. No mRNA from pdc and no PDC activity were detected in uninduced cell extracts, indicating that the…

TheSCH9 protein kinase mRNA contains a long 5′ leader with a small open reading frame

1993

The SCH9 yeast gene, that was previously identified as a suppressor of cdc25 and ras1- ras2-ts temperature-sensitive mutants, encodes a putative protein kinase that positively regulates the progression of yeast cells through the G1 phase of the cell cycle. We have determined the structure of the SCH9 transcription unit, using primer extension and S1 mapping techniques. The corresponding mRNA included an unusually long 5' region of more than 600 nucleotides preceding the major open reading frame (ORF). While the latter corresponded to a protein of 824 amino acids, an upstream open reading frame (uORF) within the 5' leader could potentially encode a 54 amino acid peptide. To investigate the r…

The dnaK operon of Streptomyces coelicolor encodes a novel heat-shock protein which binds to the promoter region of the operon

1995

Transcriptional studies have demonstrated that the dnaK gene of Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) is contained within a 4.3 kb operon. The operon is transcribed from a single (transiently) heat-inducible promoter, dnaKp, that resembles the typical vegetative (sigma 70-recognized) eubacterial consensus promoter sequence. dnaK transcription was found to be heat-inducible at all stages of development in surface-grown cultures. In addition, at the normal growth temperature of 30 degrees C, dnaK transcript levels were shown to vary at different stages of development, being more abundant in young germinating cultures and in mycelium undergoing sporogenesis. The nucleotide sequence of the dnaK operon …

A new glucose-repressible gene identified from the analysis of chromatin structure in deletion mutants of yeast SUC2 locus.

1991

We have previously shown that some changes occur in the chromatin structure of the 3' flank of the yeast SUC2 gene in going from a repressed to an active state. In an attempt to find out the causes of these changes, we have carried out experiments in which mutant copies of SUC2 locus lacking either 5' or 3' flanks have been analysed for their transcriptional activity and chromatin structure. These experiments allowed us to discard any relationship between SUC2 transcription and chromatin changes within its 3'flank. Sequencing of this flank and mRNA analysis, however, resulted in the location of a putative peroxisomal 3-oxoacyl-CoA thiolase gene (POT1), which is repressible by glucose. The d…

Annotation of microsporidian genomes using transcriptional signals

2012

EA GenoSol CT3; International audience; High-quality annotation of microsporidian genomes is essential for understanding the biological processes that govern the development of these parasites. Here we present an improved structural annotation method using transcriptional DNA signals. We apply this method to re-annotate four previously annotated genomes, which allow us to detect annotation errors and identify a significant number of unpredicted genes. We then annotate the newly sequenced genome of Anncaliia algerae. A comparative genomic analysis of A. algerae permits the identification of not only microsporidian core genes, but also potentially highly expressed genes encoding membrane-asso…
