Abstract Background Disrupted tactile acuity and poor laterality judgement have been shown in several chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions. Correlation between Density and Resorption of Fresh-Frozen and Autogenous Bone Grafts

Trial Design. This analysis compared the outcome of fresh-frozen versus autologous bone block grafts for horizontal ridge augmentation in patients with Cawood and Howell class IV atrophies.Methods. Seventeen patients received autologous grafts and 21 patients received fresh-frozen bone grafts. Patients underwent CT scans 1 week and 6 months after surgery for graft volume and density analysis.Results. Two autologous and 3 fresh-frozen grafts failed. Autologous and fresh-frozen grafts lost, respectively, 28% and 46% of their initial volume(P=0.028). The value of intraoperative frozen section examination of sentinel lymph nodes in surgical management of breast carcinoma.

PURPOSE: In breast cancer staging, the need for intraoperative sentinel lymph node (SLN) evaluation has still not been adequately established. This study investigates the impact of intraoperative frozen section (FS) evaluation of SLN to avoid subsequent axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) in patients with positive SLN. METHODS: A retrospective review of 364 breast cancer patients undergoing SLN biopsy with intraoperative FS evaluation of SLN was performed. RESULTS: Sensitivity and accuracy of FS examination of SLN were 76.4% and 94.2%, respectively. The sensitivity was significantly higher in larger tumors (p < 0.01). Uterine leiomyoma metastasis as a first sign of breast cancer

Uterine metastases from extragenital cancer are rarely reported in the literature. More frequently, the female genital tract is involved by direct extension from an adjacent pelvic organ. A 37-year-old woman had a myoma of the uterine wall and hypermenorrhea. The mass was laparoscopically enucleated, and frozen section examination was performed because it was macroscopically suspicious for sarcomatoid degeneration. The final diagnosis was metastatic carcinoma in the uterus of probable breast origin.

Current Role of Intraoperative Frozen Section Examination of Sentinel Lymph Node in Early Breast Cancer.

Background/Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the current role of frozen section in identifying patients who could benefit from an immediate axillary lymph node dissection (ALND), following the criteria of the ASOCOG Z0011 and IBCSG 23-10 trials. Patients and Methods: A retrospective review was performed involving 2,079 patients with early breast cancer who underwent conservative surgery or total mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy. Results: Sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy were 63.8% and 90.3%, respectively. Geographical mapping of metabolites in biological tissue with quantitative bioluminescence and single photon imaging

This article features a novel technique for measuring the spatial distribution of metabolites, such as ATP, glucose, and lactate, in rapidly frozen tissue. Concentration values are obtained in absolute terms and with a spatial resolution of single-cell dimension. The method is based on enzymatic reactions that link the metabolite of interest to luciferase with subsequent light emission. Using a specific array, cryosections are brought into contact with the enzymes in a well-defined, reproducible way inducing a distribution of light across the section with an intensity that is proportional to the metabolite concentration.
