State-feedback sampled-data control design for nonlinear systems via passive theory

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/230413 Open Access This paper investigates the problem of passive controller design for a class of nonlinear systems under variable sampling. The Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy modeling method is utilized to represent the nonlinear systems. Attention is focused on the design of passive controller for the T-S fuzzy systems via sampled-data control approach. Under the concept of very-strict passivity, a novel time-dependent Lyapunov functional is constructed to develop passive analysis criteria and passive controller synthesis conditions. A new …

Evaluative linguistic expressions vs. fuzzy categories

2015

In this paper, we discuss the distinction between categories characterized by verbal labels taken from a fuzzy rating scale and special class of linguistic expressions, called evaluative. The latter form a general class of expressions that includes gradable and evaluative adjectives and their hedges. First, we will provide a brief linguistic analysis of them. Then we outline basic principles for construction of the mathematical model of semantics of evaluative expressions. In Section 3 we will analyze the concepts of rating scale with verbal labels (fuzzy rating scale), their semantics and demonstrate that the latter cannot be identified with the semantics of evaluative expressions. Finally…

Some new fixed point results in non-Archimedean fuzzy metric spaces

2013

In this paper, we introduce the notions of fuzzy $(\alpha,\beta,\varphi)$-contractive mapping, fuzzy $\alpha$-$\phi$-$\psi$-contractive mapping and fuzzy $\alpha$-$\beta$-contractive mapping and establish some results of fixed point for this class of mappings in the setting of non-Archimedean fuzzy metric spaces. The results presented in this paper generalize and extend some recent results in fuzzy metric spaces. Also, some examples are given to support the usability of our results.

Fuzzy-logic-based approach for identifying objects of interest in the PRIDE framework

2008

On-road autonomous vehicle navigation requires real-time motion planning in the presence of static and moving objects. Based on sensed data of the environment and the current traffic situation, an autonomous vehicle has to plan a path by predicting the future location of objects of interest. In this context, an object of interest is a moving or stationary object in the environment that has a reasonable probability of intersecting the path of the autonomous vehicle within a predetermined time frame. This paper investigates the identification of objects of interest within the PRIDE (PRediction In Dynamic Environments) framework. PRIDE is a multi-resolutional, hierarchical framework that predi…

Collocation Method for Linear BVPs via B-spline Based Fuzzy Transform

2018

The paper is devoted to an application of a modified F-transform technique based on B-splines in solving linear boundary value problems via the collocation method. An approximate solution is sought as a composite F-transform of a discrete function (which allows the solution to be compactly stored as the values of this discrete function). We demonstrate the effectiveness of the described technique with numerical examples, compare it with other methods and propose theoretical results on the order of approximation when the fuzzy partition is based on cubic B-splines.

Perceptual similarity between color images using fuzzy metrics

2016

A method to measure the similarity between color images is proposed.Correlation among the color image channels is taken into account.Proposed similarity measure is based on fuzzy metrics because of their advantages. The proposal matches well with the perceptual visual similarity between color images. In many applications of the computer vision field measuring the similarity between (color) images is of paramount importance. However, the commonly used pixelwise similarity measures such as Mean Absolute Error, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, Mean Squared Error or Normalized Color Difference do not match well with perceptual similarity. Recently, it has been proposed a method for gray-scale image s…

Fuzzy $$\varphi $$ -pseudometrics and Fuzzy $$\varphi $$ -pseudometric Spaces

2017

By replacing the axiom \(m(x,x,t) = 1\) for all \(x\in X, t>0\) in the definition of a fuzzy pseudometric in the sense of George-Veeramani with a weaker axiom \(m(x,x,t) = \varphi (t)\) for all \(x\in X, t>0\) where \(\varphi : {\mathbb R}^+ \rightarrow (0,1]\) is a non-decreasing function, we come to the concept of a fuzzy \(\varphi \)-pseudometric space. Basic properties of fuzzy \(\varphi \)-pseudometric spaces and their mappings are studied. We show also an application of fuzzy \(\varphi \)-pseudometrics in the words combinatorics.

Modelling the Effects of Internal Textures on Symmetry Detection Using Fuzzy Operators

2009

Symmetry is a crucial dimension which aids the visual system, human as well as artificial, to organize its environment and to recognize forms and objects. In humans, detection of symmetry, especially bilateral and rotational, is considered to be a primary factor for discovering and interacting with the surrounding environment. Rotational symmetry detecting can be affected by less-known factors, such as the stimulus internal texture. This paper explores how fuzzy operators can be usefully employed in modeling the effects of the internal texture on symmetry detection. To this aim, we selected two symmetry detection algorithms, based on different computational models, and compared their output…

Fairness aware rate adaptation and proportional scheduling for IEE 802.11 wlans using FSE

2015

With its rapid development in the wireless markets, IEEE 802.11 WLAN is experiencing a huge popularity. However, due to the limitation of frequency bandwidth of WLANs, it is essential that the available radio resource should be fully utilized to offer different services to multiple users. In order to maximize system throughput while still guaranteeing the fairness among users, a proportional fairness based algorithm is proposed in this work. Since most of the previous resource allocation algorithms were simply based on the channel conditions without taking into account user’s demand, in this paper, we introduce the theory of fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) which also allows us to consider …
