Filtering for Discrete Fuzzy Stochastic Time-Delay Systems with Sensor Saturation

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/146325 This paper addresses the H-infinity filtering problem for discrete fuzzy stochastic systems with time-varying delay and sensor saturation. Random noise depending on state and external disturbance is also taken into account. A decomposition approach is employed to solve the characteristic of sensor saturation. The scaled small gain (SSG) theorem is extended to the stochastic systems, which is employed to handle with the time-varying delay by transforming the original system into the form of an interconnected system consisting of two subsys…

Robust Observer Design for Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems with Mixed Neutral and Discrete Delays and Unknown Inputs

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/635709 A robust observer design is proposed for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy neutral models with unknown inputs. The model consists of a mixed neutral and discrete delay, and the disturbances are imposed on both state and output signals. Delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the design of an unknown input T-S observer with time delays are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Some relaxations are introduced by using intermediate variables. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the given results.

Fuzzy Variable Structure Control for Uncertain Systems with Disturbance

2012

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/105074 This paper focuses on the fuzzy variable structure control for uncertain systems with disturbance. Specifically, the fuzzy control is introduced to estimate the control disturbance, the switching control is included to compensate for the approximation error, and they possess the characteristic of simpleness in design and effectiveness in attenuating the control chattering. Some typical numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the fuzzy variable structure controller proposed.

The Fuzzy Logic Gambit as a Paradigm of Lotfi’s Proposals

2019

Lotfi Zadeh, in discussing the future directions the discipline should have taken, has insisted in highlighting what he called `the Fuzzy Logic Gambit' , whose basic idea is that, when dealing with the solution of a problem through the use of Fuzzy Logic, two different type of precisions exist: ``precision in value'', which is connected to the ability of measuring reality, and ``precision in meaning'', which is what we want to attain when dealing with the real world. While the final goal of Fuzzy Logic is to provide some degree of precision to what is less precise in nature, he has brilliantly suggested that this can be obtained by bartering between precision in value and precision in meani…

Fuzzy logic and meteorological variables: a case study of solar irradiance

2002

Solar irradiance is an extreme case of an uncertain variable when measured on an hourly, or shorter time interval. In this paper solar irradiance has been considered as a case study for physical fuzzy modelling of a climate variable. The uncertainty of the solar irradiance is treated as a fuzzy uncertainty whilst other variables are considered crisp. The approach is robust as it does not rely on statistical assumptions, and it is a possible alternative to modelling complex systems. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a physical model of a meteorological variable based on fuzzy numbers has been proposed. Previous rule-based fuzzy meteorological models are only descriptive, and cann…

Traffic management and user perception: an analysis of Variable Message Signs using Fuzzy Logic

2009

Variable message signs have today become an indispensable tool for managing traffic in urban and suburban areas, such as sending real-time information to motorists in transit along roads where panels are positioned. The study draws on drivers’ response to a series of interviews conducted in the city of Brescia. The interviews showed that a large proportion of drivers does not read the messages, and indeed very often does not even remember having seeing the sign. The marginal usefulness of these facilities can probably be attributed to the fact that the panels are constantly used to display messages devoid of immediate interest (eg, greetings, penalties for traffic violations, general inform…

Fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design for high order disturbed systems

2013

In this paper, the problem of fuzzy dynamic sliding mode control design is investigated for a class of disturbed systems. Specifically, the fuzzy controller is constructed based on one feedback signal to estimate the unknown nonlinear terms and to develop the sliding mode control according to the fuzzy rules. Furthermore, it possesses the characteristic of simplicity in design and effectiveness in attenuating chattering. Finally, a numerical example is included to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantage of the proposed method.

A General Fuzzy-Parsing Scheme for Speech Recognition

1985

In this paper a Speech Recognition Methodology is proposed which is based on the general assumption of ‘fuzzyness’ of both speech-data and knowledge-sources. Besides this general principle, there are other fundamental assumptions which are also the bases of the proposed methodology: ‘Modularity’ in the knowledge organization, ‘Homogeneity’ in the representation of data and knowledge, ‘Passiveness’ of the ‘understanding flow’ (no backtraking or feedback), and ‘Parallelism’ in the recognition activity.

A multi-objective approach to solid waste management

2010

The issue addressed in this paper consists in the localization and dimensioning of transfer stations, which constitute a necessary intermediate level in the logistic chain of the solid waste stream, from municipalities to the incinerator. Contextually, the determination of the number and type of vehicles involved is carried out in an integrated optimization approach. The model considers both initial investment and operative costs related to transportation and transfer stations. Two conflicting objectives are evaluated, the minimization of total cost and the minimization of environmental impact, measured by pollution. The design of the integrated waste management system is hence approached i…

A New Universal-Environment Adaptive Multi-processor Scheduler for Autonomous Cyber-Physical System

2012

International audience; Robot, spaceship and other applications that can be called autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are all smart embedded systems, which usually run in open environment by themselves with inhered intelligent capabilities. Besides the application intelligence, the researches of adaptive platform for such systems have also become topics recently. Based on the analysis of current work, a new environment adaptive scheduler (¦Á-S) for multiprocessor platform of a cyber-physical system is proposed in this article. And then, its related structures, models, and reasoning methods are studied deeply. Different from the existing ones, ¦Á-S can schedule all tasks according to th…
