The reaction under reflux between 1-phenyl-3-R-5-methylaminopyrazoles and 2,5-hexanedione lead to 5,7:7,13-dimethanopyrazolo[3,4-b]pyrazolo[3′,4′:2,3]azepino[4,5-f]azocine derivatives 3b–g. These unusual molecules show the structural complexity of many biologically active natural products and are endowed with the chemical diversity that is required in drug discovery. Many of the virulence traits that make Candida albicans an important human fungal pathogen are regulated on a transcriptional level. Here, we report an important regulatory contribution of translation, which is exerted by the extensive 5′ untranslated regulatory sequence (5′ UTR) of the transcript for the protein Efg1, which determines growth, metabolism, and filamentation in the fungus. The presence of the 5′ UTR is required for efficient translation of Efg1, to promote filamentation. Linkage disequilibrium screening for multiple sclerosis implicates JAG1 and POU2AF1 as susceptibility genes in Europeans.

By combining all the data available from the Genetic Analysis of Multiple sclerosis in EuropeanS (GAMES) project, we have been able to identify 17 microsatellite markers showing consistent evidence for apparent association. As might be expected five of these markers map within the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and are in LD with HLA-DRB1. Individual genotyping of the 12 non-MHC markers confirmed association for three of them — D11S1986, D19S552 and D20S894. Association mapping across the candidate genes implicated by these markers in 937 UK trio families revealed modestly associated haplotypes in JAG1 (p=0.019) on chromosome 20p12.2 and POU2AF1 (p=0.003) on chromosome 11q23.1.

FSHD muscular dystrophy region gene 1 binds Suv4-20h1 histone methyltransferase and impairs myogenesis.

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is an autosomal dominant myopathy with a strong epigenetic component. It is associated with deletion of a macrosatellite repeat leading to over-expression of the nearby genes. Among them, we focused on FSHD region gene 1 (FRG1) since its over-expression in mice, Xenopus laevis and Caenorhabditis elegans, leads to muscular dystrophy-like defects, suggesting that FRG1 plays a relevant role in muscle biology. Here we show that, when over-expressed, FRG1 binds and interferes with the activity of the histone methyltransferase Suv4-20h1 both in mammals and Drosophila. [EN] To determine the area burned by fire and its associated severity related to this forest fire taken place in Sierra de Luna (Zaragoza), on July 4th, 2015, three spectral indices derived from Landsat-8 imagery have been calculated: NDVI, NBR and BAI. Comparing the results obtained from each of them, in a wildland fire with extensive crop areas surrounded by forested areas, it has been demonstrated that combination of ΔNBR and BAI substantially improves the calculation of the burned area, concerning both in its external perimeter and in the unburned zones inside of the perimeter. Existence and uniqueness of nontrivial collocation solutions of implicitly linear homogeneous Volterra integral equations

We analyze collocation methods for nonlinear homogeneous Volterra-Hammerstein integral equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity. We present different kinds of existence and uniqueness of nontrivial collocation solutions and we give conditions for such existence and uniqueness in some cases. Finally we illustrate these methods with an example of a collocation problem, and we give some examples of collocation problems that do not fit in the cases studied previously.

Revising midlatitude summer temperatures back to A.D. 600 based on a wood density network

Annually resolved and millennium-long reconstructions of large-scale temperature variability are primarily composed of tree ring width (TRW) chronologies. Changes in ring width, however, have recently been shown to bias the ratio between low- and high-frequency signals. To overcome limitations in capturing the full spectrum of past temperature variability, we present a network of 15 maximum latewood density (MXD) chronologies distributed across the Northern Hemisphere extratropics.
