In vitro oxidation of hispidin and gallic acid by horseradish peroxidase

Gallic acid and hispidin have been previously described by us as inhibitors of horseradish peroxidase (Benarous, K., Benali, F. Z., Bekhaoua, I. C., and Yousfi, M. Journal of Biomolecular Structure & Dynamics, (2021) 39(18), 7168-7180). However, additional experiments have demonstrated that under the applied assay conditions both compounds are rapidly oxidized by this enzyme. After oxidation, the components of the reaction mixture undergo complex reactions giving products with much weaker absorption at the detection wavelength. This was interpreted by us as enzyme inhibition, which, however, is only apparent. In fact, the activity of horseradish peroxidase is not affected by these compounds…

2′O-galloylhyperin attenuates LPS-induced acute lung injury via up-regulation antioxidation and inhibition of inflammatory responses in vivo

2'O-galloylhyperin, an active flavonol glycoside compound with remarkable anti-immune activity, was isolated from Pyrola [P. incarnata Fisch.]. However, the evidence of anti-inflammatory activity in pulmonary diseases was still not convincing. The aim of the present study was (1) to investigate the effect of 2'O-galloylhyperin on LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice, and (2) to identify the mechanisms of attenuation of inflammatory responses. Protective effect of grape extract phospholipid vesicles against oxidative stress skin damages

Abstract Grape extract rich in polyphenols (∼129 ± 32 mg of gallic acid equivalents per g of dry extract) was obtained from the pomaces of Cannonau grapes by homogenization in an ethanol/water mixture. The efficacy of ultrasounds in speeding up the extraction kinetics of polyphenols was demonstrated. The extract was incorporated in liposomes and PEVs (penetration enhancer containing vesicles) with Labrasol ® or Labrasol ® /ethanol. Influence of gallic acid esters on drug-metabolizing enzymes of rat liver

The effect of three antioxidants, propyl, octyl and dodecyl gallate, on hepatic drug metabolism in male rats was studied in vivo and in vitro. When fed at a dietary concentration of 1% for 14 days, only dodecyl gallate increased relative liver weight. Cytochrome P-450 content was not influenced, but a slight increase in cytochrome b5 content was observed after the feeding of propyl gallate. Monooxygenase activity (benzo[a]pyrene-hydroxylase and ethoxycoumarin-deethylase activities) was not affected by propyl or octyl gallate, but a significant decrease in benzo[a]pyrene-hydroxylase activity was apparent in rats fed dodecyl gallate. A methanolic extract from Galphimia glauca (320 mg/kg, orally) inhibited acute bronchial reactions to allergen (ovalbumin, 10 mg/ml) and platelet-activating factor (PAF, 1 microgram/ml) inhalation challenges, but not to histamine or acetylcholine in spontaneously breathing guinea pigs. Furthermore, the PAF-induced bronchial hyperreactivity was markedly reduced. Gallic acid and related compounds as well as the flavonoid, quercetin, were identified as active compounds. Food quality and nutraceutical value of nine cultivars of mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruits grown in Mediterranean subtropical environment

Functional response of novel bioprotective poloxamer-structured vesicles on inflamed skin

[EN] Resveratrol and gallic acid, a lipophilic and a hydrophilic phenol, were co-loaded in innovative, biocompatible nanovesicles conceived for ensuring the protection of the skin from oxidative-and inflammatory-related affections. The basic vesicles, liposomes and glycerosomes, were produced by a simple, one-step method involving the dispersion of phospholipid and phenols in water or water/glycerol blend, respectively.
