New record in Sicily of Gigaspermum mouretii (Gigaspermaceae, Musci), rare species in Europe.
2004
Structural and functional genomics of symbiotic arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.
2004
The absorbing organs (roots, rhizomes) of nearly all terrestrial plant families host an intimate symbiotic association, called a mycorrhiza, with specialized functional groups of soil fungi. The most common type of root symbiosis is the arbuscular mycorrhiza where soil fungi interact with a tremendous diversity of plant species, including many forest trees and agricultural, horticultural, and fruit crops (Gianinazzi et al., 2002). The fungi involved are very ancient microorganisms compared to other true fungi. Fossil data and molecular phylogenetic analyses indicate that their origin dates back to the Ordovician-Devonian era some 460 to 400 million years ago (Remy et al., 1994; Redecker et …
Beyond Foreign Policy? EU Sanctions at the Intersection of Development, Trade, and CFSP
2022
In the wake of unsettling conflicts and democratic backsliding, states and organisations increasingly respond with sanctions. The European Union (EU) is one of them: Brussels makes use of the entire toolbox in its foreign policy, and its sanctions appear in different forms—diplomatic measures, travel bans, financial bans, or various forms of economic restrictions. Yet, there is little debate between different strands in the literature on EU sanctions, in particular concerning measures under the Common Foreign and Security Policy and those pertaining to the development and trade policy fields. Our thematic issue addresses this research gap by assembling a collection of articles investigating…
This work is an approach to a classic of historiography of València in the XVII century, Década primera de la insigne i coronada ciudad i reyno de Valencia (València 1610), of Gaspar Escolano, lookin…
Oblate Collectivity in the Yrast Structure of 194Pt
2005
A deep inelastic reaction using a 460 MeV 82Se beam incident upon a thick 192Os target was performed at the Legnaro National Laboratory, Italy. The resulting γ-decays were measured using the GASP array. Results for 194Pt extend the known level scheme of the yrast structure from spin I = (12 ħ) to (20 ħ). The irregularities in the sequence of the new transition energies and total Routhian surface calculations show a breakdown in collectivity with an yrast oblate shape remaining to high spin. A conspectus of and key to GreekIsoetes(Isoetaceae), based on a reassessment of Haussknecht's gatherings of 1885
2015
The three Isoetes species recorded from Thessalia (Thessaly) in N Greece by Haussknecht, in 1899, under the names I. setacea, I. heldreichii, and I. phrygia, were reassessed using megaspore and microspore ornamentation in addition to macromorphological features. “Isoetes setacea” is not the SW European I. delilei to which the name I. setacea was generally misapplied, nor “I. echinospora” as it has been called due to a misunderstanding, but a so far undescribed species here named I. haussknechtii; it has not been found again in Haussknecht’s locality but has recently turned up in Peloponnisos and the E Aegean Islands. I. heldreichii, described from Haussknecht’s gathering, is apparently exti…
Gazpacho consumption is associated with lower blood pressure and reduced hypertension in a high cardiovascular risk cohort. Cross-sectional study of …
2013
[Background and aim]: Hypertension is a major public health problem and a leading cause of death and disability in both developed and developing countries, affecting one-quarter of the world's adult population. Our aim was to evaluate whether the consumption of gazpacho, a Mediterranean vegetable-based cold soup rich in phytochemicals, is associated with lower blood pressure (BP) and/or reduced prevalence of hypertension in individuals at high cardiovascular risk.
Isoëtes sabatina (IsoëtaceaeLycopodiophyta), a new aquatic species from central Italy
2013
The new species Isoetes sabatina is described and illustrated. Morphological, anatomical, and ecological characters are given. It differs from the similar I. echinospora by several characters, such as megaspore ornamentation and size, microspore size, velum extension and form, and also for its ecology. A table showing the main differential characters of the new species compared with those of the other European aquatic species is presented. So far, the species is known from a single locality (Bracciano Lake, central Italy), having a peculiar ecology and within the Mediterranean bioclimate.
High-spin states in the neutron-rich A∼100 region
2009
Two experimental setups have been used to study excited states of neutron‐rich nuclei in the A∼100 region. Extended level schemes and lifetime measurements were obtained using deep‐inelastic and fusion‐fission reactions with the CLARA‐PRISMA spectrometer and the Ge‐array GASP respectively. Experimental information from GASP has been used to complement the CLARA‐PRISMA experiment. Time spectra have been used to measure the lifetimes of isomeric states. Preliminary results are presented for 89Rb.
