Limits on the release of Rb isotopes from a zeolite based 83mKr calibration source for the XENON project
2011
The isomer 83mKr with its half-life of 1.83 h is an ideal calibration source for a liquid noble gas dark matter experiment like the XENON project. However, the risk of contamination of the detector with traces of the much longer lived mother isotop 83Rb (86.2 d half-life) has to be ruled out. In this work the release of 83Rb atoms from a 1.8 MBq 83Rb source embedded in zeolite beads has been investigated. To do so, a cryogenic trap has been connected to the source for about 10 days, after which it was removed and probed for the strongest 83Rb gamma-rays with an ultra-sensitive Germanium detector. No signal has been found. The corresponding upper limit on the released 83Rb activity means tha…
Proton implanted waveguides in LiNbO3, KNbO3and BaTiO3
1992
Abstract By using a Van De Graaf accelerator, planar waveguides in LiNbO3, KNbO3, and BaTiO3 are fabricated (at 300 K) by thermally controlled proton implantation. The waveguide properties are investigated by dark line mode spectroscopy. The reconstructed profiles closely follow the ion concentration profiles as determined by simulation (TRIM).

Scandium-44: Benefits of a Long-Lived PET Radionuclide Available from the 44Ti/44Sc Generator System
2011
(44)Ti/(44)Sc radionuclide generators are of interest for molecular imaging. The 3.97 hours half-life of (44)Sc and its high positron branching of 94.27% may stimulate the application of (44)Sc-labeled PET radiopharmaceuticals. This review describes the current status of (44)Ti production, (44)Ti/(44)Sc radionuclide generator development, post-processing of generator eluates towards medical application, identification of ligands adequate to Sc(III) co-ordination chemistry, proof-of-principle labeling of (44)Sc-DOTA-octreotides, investigation of in vitro and in vivo parameters, and initial applications for molecular imaging - both in small animals and humans.
Parabolic pulse generation with active or passive dispersion decreasing optical fibers
2007
International audience; We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to generate parabolic pulses via a single dispersion decreasing optical fiber with normal dispersion. We numerically and experimentally investigate the influence of the dispersion profile, and we show that a hybrid configuration combining dispersion decrease and gain has several benefits on the parabolic generated pulses.

The continuous Berth Allocation Problem in a container terminal with multiple quays
2015
We propose an integer linear model for the case of BAP with multiple quays. We design several constructive procedures and propose a large set of priority rules. We design a genetic algorithm, using the solutions obtained by the priority rules. For BAP with one quay, our genetic algorithm outperforms the best published methods. This paper extends the study of the continuous Berth Allocation Problem to the case of multiple quays, which is found in many container terminals around the world. Considering multiple quays adds a problem of assigning vessels to quays to the problem of determining berthing times and positions for each incoming vessel. This problem has not been considered in the literatur…
Influence of losses partition criteria on power flow tracing
2012
The paper proposes a methodology for tracing active power flow which also considers power losses partition. It requires the partition of the active power losses in each line over different flow components. Then, the differences arising from the selection of different criteria for the allocation of the mutual terms (deriving from the non-linearity of losses) are investigated. Power flows tracing and losses allocation at each generator (or load) must be carried out simultaneously; therefore, a suitable order is required for the analysis of nodes and lines in a network. A procedure for the direct evaluation of all the components of the power flows and of the losses in the lines assigned to the…
Due Dates and RCPSP
2006
Due dates are an essential feature of real projects, but little effort has been made in studying the RCPSP with due dates in the activities. This paper tries to bridge this gap by studying two problems: the TardinessRCPSP, in which the objective is total tardiness minimization and the DeadlineRCPSP, in which the due dates are strict (deadlines) and the objective is makespan minimization. The first problem is NP-hard and the second is much harder, since finding a feasible solution is already NP-hard. This paper has three objectives: Firstly to compare the performance on both problems of well-known RCPSP heuristics - priority rules, sampling procedures and metaheuristics - with new versions w…
Design of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator using Interactive Multiobjective Optimization
2017
We consider an analytical model of a permanent magnet synchronous generator and formulate a mixed-integer constrained multiobjective optimization problem with six objective functions. We demonstrate the usefulness of solving such a problem by applying an interactive multiobjective optimization method called NIMBUS. In the NIMBUS method, a decision is iteratively involved in the optimization process and directs the solution process in order to find her/his most preferred Pareto optimal solution for the problem. We also employ a commonly used noninteractive evolutionary multiobjective optimization method NSGA-II to generate a set of solutions that approximates the Pareto set and demonstrate t…
