Abstract This paper contributes to 3D facial synthesis by presenting a novel method for parameterization using Landmark Point detection. The approach presented aims at improving facial recognition even in varying facial expressions, and missing data in 3D facial models. Automatic Generation of Subject-Based Image Transitions

This paper presents a novel approach for the automatic generation of image slideshows. Counter to standard cross-fading, the idea is to operate the image transitions keeping the subject focused in the intermediate frames by automatically identifying him/her and preserving face and facial features alignment. This is done by using a novel Active Shape Model and time-series Image Registration. The final result is an aesthetically appealing slideshow which emphasizes the subject. The results have been evaluated with a users’ response survey. The outcomes show that the proposed slideshow concept is widely preferred by final users w.r.t. standard image transitions.
Selecting the Kth nearest-neighbour for clutter removal in spatial point processes through segmented regression models

We consider the problem of feature detection, in the presence of clutter in spatial point processes. A previous study addresses the issue of the selection of the best nearest neighbour for clutter removal. We outline a simple workflow to automatically estimate the number of nearest neighbours by means of segmented regression models applied to an entropy measure of cluster separation. The method is suitable for a feature with clutter as two superimposed Poisson processes on any twodimensional space, including linear networks. We present simulations to illustrate the method and an application to the problem of seismic fault detection.
Pathogenetic and diagnostic significance of microRNA deregulation in peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas not otherwise specified (PTCLs/NOS) are rare and aggressive tumours whose molecular pathogenesis and diagnosis are still challenging. The microRNA (miRNA) profile of 23 PTCLs/NOS was generated and compared with that of normal T-lymphocytes (CD4+, CD8+, naive, activated). The differentially expressed miRNA signature was compared with the gene expression profile (GEP) of the same neoplasms. The obtained gene patterns were tested in an independent cohort of PTCLs/NOS. Optical sectioning microscopy is usually performed by means of a scanning, multi-shot procedure in combination with non-uniform illumination. In this paper, we change the paradigm and report a method that is based in the light field concept, and that provides optical sectioning for 3D microscopy images after a single-shot capture. To do this we fi rst capture multiple orthographic perspectives of the sample by means of Fourier-domain integral microscopy (FiMic). Lightfield microscopy has raised growing interest in the last few years. Its ability to get three-dimensional information about the sample in a single shot makes it suitable for many applications in which time resolution is fundamental. In this paper we present a novel device, which is capable of converting any conventional microscope into a lightfield microscope. Control of a PTZ camera in a hybrid vision system

In this paper, we propose a new approach to steer a PTZ camera in the direction of a detected object visible from another fixed camera equipped with a fisheye lens. This heterogeneous association of two cameras having different characteristics is called a hybrid stereo-vision system. The presented method employs epipolar geometry in a smart way in order to reduce the range of search of the desired region of interest. A genetic algorithm for image segmentation

The paper describes a new algorithm for image segmentation. It is based on a genetic approach that allow us to consider the segmentation problem as a global optimization problem (GOP). For this purpose, a fitness function, based on the similarity between images, has been defined. The similarity is a function of both the intensity and the spatial position of pixels. Preliminary results, obtained using real images, show a good performance of the segmentation algorithm.
