Influence of prefabricated post dimensions on restored maxillary central incisors

summary  The aim of this study was to test the following hypothesis: biomechanical performance (fracture strength and stress distribution) of restored teeth is less sensitive to post diameter and post length when using glass fibre posts than when using stainless steel posts. First, an experimental fracture strength test was performed on 80 extracted human maxillary central incisors. Teeth were decoronated, treated endodontically and restored (40 with glass fibre posts and 40 with stainless steel posts), and the length and diameter of the posts varied uniformly. Previous works studied the effect of the material and the dimensions of the post on the biomechanical performance (fracture strength and stress distribution) of restored teeth, under static loads. The aim of this work was to study the effect of the post material (glass fibre and stainless steel) on restored teeth, which have the final crown, under dynamic conditions. Solid-phase FT-Raman determination of caffeine in energy drinks

Abstract A solid-phase vibrational spectrometry-based methodology (solid-phase Fourier transform-Raman spectrometry, SP-FT-Raman) has been developed for caffeine determination in commercial energy drink samples. The Raman spectra of caffeine, fixed on a C18 solid phase packed into a glass tube of 5 mm i.d., was obtained directly between 3500 and 70 cm −1 . In order to quantify caffeine, Raman intensity between 573 and 542 cm −1 corrected using a baseline defined between 580 and 540 cm −1 was used. A simple and commercial readily-available approach that enables the direct use of ionic liquid (IL)-based single-drop microextraction (SDME) prior to gas chromatography (GC) is presented. The approach is based on thermal desorption (TD) of the analytes from the IL droplet to the GC system, by using a robust and commercially-available thermodesorption system. For this purpose, a two-glass-tube concentrically disposed system was designed. Quantification of low levels of amorphous content in sucrose by hyperDSC.

A method was developed for the quantification of low levels of amorphous content in sucrose with hyperDSC. The method was based on the fact that the change of specific heat at the glass transition is linearly proportional to the amorphous content. It was found out that as annealing time increased, the glass transition temperature moved to a higher temperature and the change of specific heat increased. DeltaC(p) for annealed totally amorphous sucrose was 0.761+/-0.012 Jg(-1) degrees C(-1). Synthetic mixtures with various proportions of crystalline and amorphous sucrose were prepared.
