Didactics of mathematics and architecture: the golden ratio in la Lonja de Valencia
2016
[EN] This paper has a twofold purpose. First, to structure and relate a teaching experience on the tutoring of a graduation work in Mathematics made in the University of Valencia. The main property of the didactic purpose involved in the project is that it deals with the geometric properties of a landmark building of the city of Valencia. Our aim is to analyze the process of formulation, firming up, documentation and elaboration of the work that was followed during this experience. Second, to analyze the methodology used to obtain and valuate the results that come from one of the fundamental parts of this work: the harmonic decomposition of the building named Lonja de la Seda in Valencia
Low-grade fever: how to distinguish organic from non-organic forms.
2010
Summary Background and aim: Low-grade fever (LGF) is defined as a body temperature between 37.5 and 38.3 °C, which is below the classical value reported for fever of unknown origin (FUO). We attempted to characterise its epidemiology, aetiology and clinical aspects to improve the methodological approach to diagnosis. Design and Methods: We reviewed and evaluated a survey of patients with LGF, followed as outpatients of our Department, a tertiary referral centre from 1997 to 2008. The same classifications were applied for classical FUO, and in the patients diagnosed with LGF, we also investigated for habitual hyperthermia (HH). Results: Seventy-three patients were selected and divided int…

Pyramidal and nonpyramidal callosal cells in the striate cortex of the adult rat
1994
The aim of this study has been to determine the neuronal types (pyramidal and nonpyramidal) within the rat's visual cortex, which project through the corpus callosum. To this end, the morphology and laminar distribution of callosal cells have been investigated by combining Diamidino Yellow retrograde tracing with intracellular injection of Lucifer Yellow in slightly fixed tissue slices. The visual callosal projection arises from pyramidal cells of diverse morphology in layers II to VIb, as well as from several modified pyramids located mainly in layers II, IV (star pyramids) and VIb (horizontal or inverted pyramids and related forms of spiny stellate cells). Our results indicate that in rat…
Lett å få 5, nesten umulig å få 6 : En kvalitativ studie av videregående elevers opplevelser med vurdering i kroppsøving
2019
Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Background:There is little research knowledge on how students experience being evaluated in physical education. I however find this to be an engaging subjectfor both teachers and students. Therefore, based on this, I wish to investigatethis subject further. Purpose:The purpose of this study is to investigatehow high school students experience being evaluated in physical education. Thesis statement:“How do high school students experience being evaluated?” Method:Two schools from Vest-Agder have helpedshed light on this issue through qualitative semi structured research group interviews.Analytical terminologydeveloped by Pierre…
Behavioral and Brain Measures of Morphological Processing in Children With and Without Familial Risk for Dyslexia From Pre-school to First Grade
2021
School-age reading skills are associated with and predicted by preschool-age cognitive risk factors for dyslexia, such as deficits in phonological awareness, rapid automatized naming, letter knowledge, and verbal short-term memory. In addition, evidence exists that problems in morphological information processing could be considered a risk factor for dyslexia. In the present study, 27 children at pre-school age and the same 27 children at first grade age performed a morphological awareness task while their brain responses were measured with magnetoencephalography. Our aim was to examine how derivational morphology in Finnish language, and concomitant accuracy and reaction times are associat…
Exercise treatment effect modifiers in persistent low back pain: an individual participant data meta-analysis of 3514 participants from 27 randomised…
2020
BackgroundLow back pain is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Exercise therapy is widely recommended to treat persistent non-specific low back pain. While evidence suggests exercise is, on average, moderately effective, there remains uncertainty about which individuals might benefit the most from exercise.MethodsIn parallel with a Cochrane review update, we requested individual participant data (IPD) from high-quality randomised clinical trials of adults with our two primary outcomes of interest, pain and functional limitations, and calculated global recovery. We compiled a master data set including baseline participant characteristics, exercise and comparison characteristic…
Loss of spatial learning in a patient with topographical disorientation in new environments
2003
The case is described of a patient who, following cerebral hypoxia, developed severe difficulty in orienting himself in new environments in the context of a mild global amnesic syndrome. Some episodes he related suggested that his main difficulty was remembering the spatial/directional value of landmarks he recognised. A neuroradiological examination documented severe bilateral atrophy of the hippocampi associated with atrophic changes in the cerebral hemispheres, most marked in the dorsal regions. Neuropsychological and experimental evaluation showed a severe deficit of spatial learning with substantially preserved ability to learn verbal and visual-object information. He was also virtuall…
Clinical practice guideline for the integrated management of major trauma by the Italian National Institute of Health: process and methods
2021
Background. Major trauma describes serious injuries requiring lifesaving interventions or resulting in long-term disability; it represents about 8% of all deaths worldwide. Specific guidelines can help reduce deaths and disabilities, provided they adhere to high quality and trustworthiness standards. This article aims at introducing the development process of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS (Italian National Institute of Health) guideline for major trauma integrated management. Methods. We applied the ISS methodological standards including the GRADE-ADOLOPMENT approach for adoption, adaptation, and de novo development of trustworthy guidelines. Results. The scope was formulated by the…
Human bile microbiota: A retrospective study focusing on age and gender
2021
Aims: The emerging biliary colonization of microorganisms in patients with biliary diseases may be devastating. Recent evidence suggests that age and gender may influence changes in the microbial composition of gut microbiota. To study the relationship between these parameters on bile microbiota, we retrospectively reviewed positive bile cultures following an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in a QA-certified academic surgical unit of a single institution. Methods: 449 positive bile cultures from 172 Italian patients with diseases of the biliopancreatic system hospitalized from 2006 through 2017 were investigated for aerobic, anaerobic, and fungal organisms. The patient…
