Mid-infrared intersubband absorption in lattice-matched AlInN/GaN multiple-quantum wells

2005

We report the observation of midinfrared intersubband (ISB) absorption in nearly lattice-matched AlInNGaN multiple-quantum-wells. A clear absorption peak is observed around 3 μm involving transitions from the conduction band ground state to the first excited state. In addition to ISB absorption, photoluminescence experiments were carried out on lattice- matched AlInNGaN single quantum wells in order to determine the spontaneous polarization discontinuity between GaN and Al0.82 In0.18 N compounds. The experimental value is in good agreement with theoretical predictions. Our results demonstrate that the AlInNGaN system is very promising to achieve crack-free and low dislocation density struct…

From non-excitable single-cell to multicellular bioelectrical states supported by ion channels and gap junction proteins: Electrical potentials as di…

2019

Endogenous bioelectric patterns within tissues are an important driver of morphogenesis and a tractable component of a number of disease states. Developing system-level understanding of the dynamics by which non-neural bioelectric circuits regulate complex downstream cascades is a key step towards both, an evolutionary understanding of ion channel genes, and novel strategies in regenerative medicine. An important capability gap is deriving rational modulation strategies targeting individual cells' bioelectric states to achieve global (tissue- or organ-level) outcomes. Here, we develop an ion channel-based model that describes multicellular states on the basis of spatio-temporal patterns of …

The minimum pension and its effect on the gender gap in retirement pensions in Spain

2021

The gender gap in pensions is greater than the gender gap in wages in the majority of countries in the European Union. Similarly, more women live on a minimum pension than do men. Therefore, the me...

Occupazione, profitto e capabilities in una professione tradizionalmente femminile

2021

Reversal of Gender Disparity in Journalism Education- Study of Ghana Institute of Journalism

2017

Journalism has practically become a feminine profession across the world. To understand the root of the flow of women into the Journalism profession it is pertinent to begin at the university education level. Gallagher’s 1992 worldwide survey of female students in 83 journalism institutions reveals a significant increase in number of female students. Djerf-Pierre (2007) and others argue along Bourdieu’s conception of education as a form of social capital which empowers, enables and enhances women’s competitiveness in a pre-dominantly androgynous social arena. The study analyses 16 years of enrolment data of the Academic Affairs Unit of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), a leading Jour…

Wage Gap as a Possible Determinant of Gender Inequality

2021

Recent academic researchers have indicated that there are possible inequalities concerning work and pay in different countries, professions and economic sectors. The aim of current research is to analyse recent scientific findings on the wage gap depending on gender and empirical data in Latvia using EU-SILC surveys, Labour Surveys and monthly statistical data on wages and salaries for women and men. The findings indicated that in various economic fields and occupations women were under-represented, and amongst most of these fields the modal net wage interval for women was lower than the modal net wage interval for men. It was also concluded that in January 2018 the average gross income fro…

The gender gap in job authority: Do social network resources matter?

2019

Contains fulltext : 219502.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Women generally have less job authority than men. Previous research has shown that human capital, family features and contextual factors cannot fully explain this gender authority gap. Another popular explanation holds that women's career opportunities are limited because their social networks comprise less beneficial contacts and resources than men's. Yet, the role of social networks has received little attention in empirical research seeking to explain the gender gap in job authority. This study examines to what extent gender differences in social networks exist and are related to the gender authority gap. Drawing on two …

Modeling of a continuous photocatalytic reactor for isovaleraldehyde oxidation: Effect of different operating parameters and chemical degradation pat…

2013

International audience; An investigation of isovaleraldehyde (ISOV) photocatalytic oxidation was conducted at initial concentrations ranging from 25 to 150 mg/m3 and different relative humidities (5-90% RH) in order to characterize the process performances close to indoor air conditions. Experiments were carried out in two different reactors: cylinder and flat-plate photoreactor (planar reactor) at different air gap (20-60 mm) and gas residence times (0.67-5.0 s). A plug flow reactor system was developed in order to perform kinetic studies of (i) isovaleraldehyde removal, (ii) selectivity of CO2, (iii) byproducts formation and removal. It appears that ISOV removal efficiencies increased wit…

Atomic and electronic structure of perfect and defective PbZrO3 perovskite: Hybrid DFT calculations of cubic and orthorhombic phases

2007

Abstract The structural and electronic properties of pure cubic and low-temperature orthorhombic PbZrO3 (antiferroelectric phase), as well as cubic PbZrO3 containing single F-centers (neutral oxygen vacancies) have been simulated by means of ab initio hybrid density functional calculations. We observed a substantial increase of the Pb–O bond covalency in ideal orthorhombic PbZrO3 with respect to its cubic phase. Relatively large displacement of four Pb atoms nearest to the F-center (0.25 A towards the defect) could affect the PbZrO3 ferroelectric properties. An O vacancy in the bulk PbZrO3 attracts ≈0.7 e, and the remaining electron density from the missing O2− is localized mostly on four n…
