Abstract Although the wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa L. s.l.) fruits are known to contain linear and angular furanocoumarins, the individual components of the seeds have not been fully identified and quantitated, and, in the case of immature seeds, reported. In view of this, the main furanocoumarin compounds were extracted using pyridine, and were isolated using semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. Tunneling junctions of the heavy-fermion superconductor UPd2Al3

Abstract Tunneling spectroscopy on planar Giaever-type junctions is a powerful tool for the investigation of the superconducting state of metals. Since it is possible to prepare high-quality epitaxial thin films of the heavy-fermion compound UPd 2 Al 3 , this method can be used to examine the energy gap of this presumably unconventional superconductor. We prepared cross-junctions consisting of a UPd 2 Al 3 base electrode and a metal counter electrode (Au, Al or Ag). These small area contacts without artificial barriers have only low junction resistances and suffer from irreproducibility. Tunneling and point contact investigations of La1.85Sr0.15CuO4

The high-T c superconductor La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 was investigated by means of point contact and tunneling measurements on small-sized contacts. We find different values for the energy gap at different points of the samples. The ratio 2Delta/k B T c ranges from about 3 to 6. For some point contacts we observe a clear signature of a supercurrent. Data for the temperature dependence of the critical current are presented.

High levels of circulating heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) are detected in many cancers. In order to explore the effects of extracellular HSP70 on human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC), we initially used gap-FRAP technique. Extracellular human HSP70 (rhHSP70), but not rhHSP27, blocks the gap-junction intercellular communication (GJIC) between HMEC, disrupts the structural integrity of HMEC junction plaques, and decreases connexin43 (Cx43) expression, which correlates with the phosphorylation of Cx43 serine residues. We present a study of the energy levels in a FTO/TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro solar cell device. The measurements are performed using a novel ambient pressure photoemission (APS) technique alongside Contact Potential Difference data from a Kelvin Probe. The Perovskite Solar Cell energy band diagram is demonstrated for the device in dark conditions and under illumination from a 150W Quartz Tungsten Halogen lamp. This approach provides useful information on the interaction between the different materials in this solar cell device. Measurements of tunneling conduction to carbon nanotubes and its sensitivity to oxygen gas

We have measured the conductive properties of junctions between carbon nanotubes (CNT) and non-noble metals $M$ ($M$ = Al, Ti, Nb), which are separated by the native oxide (${M}_{\mathit{OX}}$) of the metal. Reproducible and asymmetric current-voltage characteristics were obtained from Ti/Ti${}_{\mathit{OX}}$/CNT and Nb/Nb${}_{\mathit{OX}}$/CNT junctions, while Al/Al${}_{\mathit{OX}}$/CNT exhibited no current until breakdown, which is attributed to the larger bandgap of Al${}_{\mathit{OX}}$. The conduction in the Ti- and Nb-based junctions is not due to direct tunneling since they exhibit strong temperature dependence. This research project investigates the relationship between communication apprehension and conflict in the intergroup context of minority and majority relationships. Previous studies of communication apprehension have extensively examined its characteristics in the intercultural context of mostly the USA and Eastern Asians cultures. However, the minority-majority intergroup relationship represents distinctive yet understudied characteristics related to socioeconomic status of the groups, which potentially influence their intergroup conflicts.
