4-5 gadu vecu bērnu radošās darbības attīstības veicināšana tehnoloģiju mācību jomas procesā
2021
Behavioral responses of Atlantic cod to sea temperature changes
2015
Understanding responses of marine species to temperature variability is essential to predict impacts of future climate change in the oceans. Most ectotherms are expected to adjust their behavior to avoid extreme temperatures and minimize acute changes in body temperature. However, measuring such behavioral plasticity in the wild is challenging. Combining 4 years of telemetry-derived behavioral data on juvenile and adult (30–80 cm) Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), and in situ ocean temperature measurements, we found a significant effect of sea temperature on cod depth use and activity level in coastal Skagerrak. During summer, cod were found in deeper waters when sea surface temperature increase…
Acanthocephala in fish from the Bothnian Bay, Finland
1990
A sample of 7266 fish from 31 species was obtained from the north-eastern Bothnian Bay, Baltic Sea, from 1975 to 1982. Twenty-six fish species were found to be infected with seven acanthocephalan species identified as Echinorhynchus salmonis, E. bothniensis, E. borealis, E. gadi, Acanthocephalus anguillae, A. lucii and Neoechinorhynchus rutili. Acanthocephalus lucii was the only acanthocephalan not to attain sexual maturity M at least one species of fish. Fourteen new host records were found for E. bothniensis. A total of 1576 acanthocephalan infections was found; in most cases these were single species infections, but in 108 cases infections of two, and in two cases of three species were o…
3-4 gadu vecu bērnu emocionālās attīstības veicināšana pirmsskolā
2018
Darba autors: Madara Prikule Kvalifikācijas darba temats: “3 - 4 gadu vecu bērnu emocionālās attīstības veicināšana pirmsskolā”. Atslēgas vardi: Sadarbības prasmes, emocionālās attīstības veicināšana, rotaļu darbība. Darbs sastāv no 39 lappusēm, tajā iekļautas 15 tabulas un 10 attēli, izmantoti 22 literatūras avoti un pievienots 1 pielikums. Darba mērķis: analizēt teorētisko literatūru par bērna emocionālo attīstību, un praktiski pārbaudīt 3-4 gadu vecu bērnu emocionālās attīstības iespējas caur rotaļām pirmsskolā. Pētījuma mērķis: Noskaidrot, vai tad, ja pedagoģiskajā procesā tiek izmantotas dažādas rotaļas, bērni attīstās emocionali sekmīgāk. Pētījumā gaitā tiek: •anketēti pirmsskolas izg…
Variation in spawning time promotes genetic variability in population responses to environmental change in a marine fish.
2015
Common-garden experiments suggest that the response of Atlantic cod larvae to temperature differs among populations that spawn at different times of year. Populations appear to be adapted to the temperatures experienced during the larval stage at a small spatial scale, despite a lack of physical barriers to gene flow.
Tandem repeats lead to sequence assembly errors and impose multi-level challenges for genome and protein databases
2019
AbstractThe widespread occurrence of repetitive stretches of DNA in genomes of organisms across the tree of life imposes fundamental challenges for sequencing, genome assembly, and automated annotation of genes and proteins. This multi-level problem can lead to errors in genome and protein databases that are often not recognized or acknowledged. As a consequence, end users working with sequences with repetitive regions are faced with ‘ready-to-use’ deposited data whose trustworthiness is difficult to determine, let alone to quantify. Here, we provide a review of the problems associated with tandem repeat sequences that originate from different stages during the sequencing-assembly-annotatio…
Seminal plasma biochemistry and spermatozoa characteristics of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua L.) of wild and cultivated origin
2011
Abstract Our objectives were to compare spermatozoa activity, morphology, and seminal plasma (SP) biochemistry between wild and cultivated Atlantic cod ( Gadus morhua ). Swimming velocities of wild cod spermatozoa were significantly faster than those of cultivated males. Wild males had a significantly larger spermatozoa head area, perimeter, and length, while cultivated males had more circular heads. Total monounsaturated fatty acids and the ratio of n−3/n−6 were significantly higher in sperm from wild males, while total n−6 from cultivated males was significantly higher than the wild males. Significantly higher concentrations of the fatty acids C14:0, C16:1n−7, C18:4n−3, C20:1n−11, C20:1n−…
Demographic effects of full vs. partial protection from harvesting: inference from an empirical before-after control-impact study on Atlantic cod
2015
Summary In recent years, marine protected areas (MPAs) excluding all or some fishing activities have become widely applied as a tool to rebuild marine ecosystems and fisheries, but still, our knowledge of the effects of MPAs on the demography of harvested populations remains scarce, especially in cases where partly protected areas are still supporting some fishing activities. Here, we investigated the influence of partial protection – excluding fixed gears such as gillnets and traps but still allowing a hook and line fishery – on the demography of Atlantic cod Gadus morhua along the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. To do so, we applied novel multi-event models to a 9-year data set containing both…
Catch-and-release of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua): post-release behaviour of acoustically pretagged fish in a natural marine environment
2014
Studying the sublethal effects of catch-and-release (C&R) is challenging, as there are several potential sources of bias. For example, if behavioural alterations immediately after the release event are to be studied, separation of tagging effects from actual C&R effects is required, which is a challenge in the wild, particularly in marine environments. To investigate the effects of C&R on Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) in their natural environment, 80 cod were caught in fyke nets, fitted with acoustic transmitters, and released. After recovery from tagging and handling for at least 14 days, nine individuals were recaptured and released at least once during experimental angling, fo…
