Performance and Implementation Modeling of Gated Linear Networks on FPGA for Lossless Image Compression

2020

Over recent years, imaging systems have seen explosive increase in resolution. These trends present a challenge for resource-constrained embedded imaging devices. Efficient image compression is essential to reduce bandwidth consumption and to increase the capability of on-board storage. Especially, for imaging systems where information loss is not allowed, for example, in medical, military and remote sensing imaging systems. This paper explores the use of Gated Linear Networks (GLNs) for development of embedded lossless compression systems. GLNs have proved themselves via PAQ archiver series, that have been ranked among the top across several lossless compression benchmarks. We propose an a…

FPGA Implementation Of Diffusive Realization For A Distributed Control Operator

2010

International audience; We focus on the question of real-time computation for optimal distributed filtering or control applicable to MEMS Arrays. We present an algorithm for the realization of a linear operator solution to a functional equation through its application to a Lyapunov operatorial equation associated to the heat equation in one dimension. It is based on the diffusive realization, and turns to be well suited for fined grained parallel computer architecture as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). An effective FPGA implementation has been successfully carried out. Here, we report the main implementation steps and the final measured performances.

Multifunctional Poly(ethylene glycol)s

2011

In the rapidly evolving multidisciplinary field of polymer therapeutics, tailored polymer structures represent the key constituent to explore and harvest the potential of bioactive macromolecular hybrid structures. In light of the recent developments for anticancer drug conjugates, multifunctional polymers are becoming ever more relevant as drug carriers. However, the potentially best suited polymer, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), is unfavorable owing to its limited functionality. Therefore, multifunctional linear copolymers (mf-PEGs) based on ethylene oxide (EO) and appropriate epoxide comonomers are attracting increased attention. Precisely engineered via living anionic polymerization and d…

SORTING CONJUGATES AND SUFFIXES OF WORDS IN A MULTISET

2014

In this paper we are interested in the study of the combinatorial aspects related to the extension of the Burrows-Wheeler transform to a multiset of words. Such study involves the notion of suffixes and conjugates of words and is based on two different order relations, denoted by <lex and ≺ω, that, even if strictly connected, are quite different from the computational point of view. In particular, we introduce a method that only uses the <lex sorting among suffixes of a multiset of words in order to sort their conjugates according to ≺ω-order. In this study an important role is played by Lyndon words. This strategy could be used in applications specially in the field of Bioinformatic…

Conjugated linolenic acid (CLna), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and other biohydrogenation intermediates in plasma and milk fat of cows fed raw or …

2007

International audience; Thirty lactating dairy cows were used in a 333 Latin-square design to investigate the effects of a raw or extruded blend of linseed and wheat bran (70:30) on plasma and milk fatty-acids (FA). Linseed diets, containing 16.6% linseed blend on a dry-matter basis, decreased milk yield and protein percentage. They decreased the proportions of FA with less than 18 carbons in plasma and milk and resulted in cis -9, cis -12, cis -15 18:3 proportions that were more than three and four times higher in plasma and milk, respectively, whereas cis -9, cis -12 18:2 proportions were decreased by 10–15%. The cis -9, trans -11, cis -15 18:3 isomer of conjugated linolenic acid was not …

The Properties Of Commercial Alumina Base Materials And Their Effect On The Manufacture Of Active Porous Alumina Supports By Means Of Extrusion

1983

The behaviour of 60 commercial base aluminas (macrocrystalline non-porous gibbsites, microcrystalline non-porous and porous boehmites, thermally activated porous boehmites and gibbsites) was studied via paste processing and extrusion in order to produce active porous alumina pellets. The most decisive properties of the base materials with respect to extrusion were: the degree of dehydration, the mean of aggregate size, the shape of aggregate size distribution, the shape of aggregates, the size of primary crystallites and the specific surface area. The relevance of these properties to those of the final pellets, i.e. crushing strength, porosity, pore volume distribution and specific surface …

A simple model of income, aggregate demand and the process of credit creation by private banks

2013

This paper presents a small macroeconomic model describing the main mechanisms of the process of creation by the private banking system. The model is composed of a core unit-where the dynamics of income, credit and aggregate demand are determined-and a set of sectoral accounts that ensure its stock-flow consistency. In order to grasp the role of credit and banks on the functioning of the economic system we make an explicit distinction between planned and realized variables, thanks to which, while maintaining the ex-post accounting consistency, we are able to introduce an ex-ante wedge between current aggregate income and planned expenditure. Private banks are the only economic agents capabl…

Is the ‘euro effect’ on trade so small after all? New evidence using gravity equations with panel cointegration techniques

2014

In this paper we present new evidence on the aggregate effect of the euro on trade using data for 26 OECD countries for the period 1967–2008. We strive to fill the gaps present in the previous literature through a second-generation panel cointegration tests and estimators that account for both cross-section dependence in the data and discontinuities in the deterministic and the cointegrating vector in the time dimension. This approach allows us to put the adoption of the euro by EMU members in historical perspective. We argue that the creation of the EMU is best interpreted as a progression of policy changes. Once we control for all of them the euro effect decreases considerably but is stil…

Disaggregate Real Exchange Rate Behaviour

2007

In this paper, we re-examine the “PPP Puzzle” using sectoral disaggregated data. Specifically, we first analyse the mean reversion speeds of real exchange rates for a number of different sectors in eleven industrial economies and then focus on relating these rates to variables identified in the literature as key determinants of CPI-based real exchange rates, namely: the trade balance, productivity and the mark up. In particular, we seek to understand to what extent the relationships existing at the aggregate level are borne out at the disaggregate level. We believe that this analysis can help shed light on the PPP puzzle.
