A NEW AREA OF ALKALINE ROCKS IN EASTERN PARAGUAY

Alkaline rocks can be found in three major areas (northern, northeastern and central-eastern) of Eastern Paraguay. On die basis of geographic distribution and tectonic association, Livieres & Quade (1987) proposed inclu- sion of these outcrop areas different alkaline provinces: Alto Paraguay, Amambay and Central, respectively (Fig. 1). Presently, only the Central Province, clustering the largest number of occurrences, is the subject of systematic investigation. Available information on the Alto Paraguay and Amambay rocks is still scarce.

Abstract The electrophoretic patterns of seven isozyme systems (ADH, AMY, AAT, GDH, LAP, MDH, and SOD) obtained from dormant seeds from 44 accessions belonging to 12 Petrocoptis taxa were compared in order to clarify taxonomic relationships within the genus. Overall, electrophoretic zymograms showed the presence of up 28 electromorphs, of which 26 were polymorphic among accessions. Mantel tests revealed a moderate level of correlation between the geographic distance matrix and several dissimilarity matrices based on the isozyme data ( r =0.3052–0.3376). Distribution of Albian clastic deposits in the Benguela basin (Angola): evidence of a Benguela palaeocurrent?

Abstract The Albian clastic Tuenza Formation of the Benguela basin (south Angola) is described and its geographic distribution analysed in detail. From these observations, the existence of an Albian “PalaeoBenguela current” is proposed. This would imply that a marine longshore current reworked the sand transported by palaeorivers and settled it northward along the coast of the young Atlantic Ocean (during the Albian). A parallel between Albian clastic deposits and the modern sediments deposited by the Benguela current is drawn, focusing on the striking resemblance between the two currents, i.e. the actual Benguela current and the Albian marine current, and the associated sedimentary bodies.

It is, however, not known whether international travel is more important for spread of the epidemic as compared to endogenous infections within single countries. summary We typed 1801 males from 55 locations for the Y-specific binary markers YAP, DYZ3, SRY "!)$" and the (CA)n microsatellites YCAII and DYS413. Phylogenetic relationships of chromosomes with the same binary haplotype were condensed in seven large one-step networks, which accounted for 95% of all chromosomes. Their coalescence ages were estimated based on microsatellite diversity. The three largest and oldest networks undergo sharp frequency changes in three areas. The new deuteromycete genus and species Minutoexcipula tuckerae is described and illustrated from five collections on Pertusaria texana made in Louisiana. It is characterized by the formation of black convex sporodochia-like conidiomata which also have a well-differentiated exciple. The branched conidiophores bear proliferating holoblastic conidiogenous cells with distinct annellations, and the singly borne conidia are brown and 1-septate. The separation of the genus from Lichenopuccinia, Milospium, Monodictys, Sclerococcum, and Trimmatostroma is discussed.
