Abnormal peripubertal development of the rat mammary gland following exposure in utero and during lactation to a mixture of genistein and the food co…
2012
The impact of early exposure to endocrine disruptor mixtures on mammary gland development is poorly known. Here, we identify the effects of a conception to weaning exposure of rats to the phytoestrogen genistein (G) and/or the antiandrogen vinclozolin (V) at 1 mg/kg-d, alone or in association. Using several approaches, we found that G- and GV-exposed rats displayed significantly greater epithelial branching and proliferation, wider terminal end buds than controls at PND35, as well as ductal hyperplasia and periductal fibrosis. Focal branching defects were present in V-exposed rats. An increased ER and AR expression was observed in G- and CV- as compared to V-exposed rats at PND35. Surprisin…
Physical activity during pregnancy and early childhood from the perspective of gestational diabetes risk and children's body composition
2017
This study investigated the factors associated with self-reported leisure-time physical activity excluding household activities (LTPAexHH) among women at risk for gestational diabetes (GDM), change in self-reported LTPA including household activities (LTPAinHH) from pre-pregnancy to 7-year follow-up as well as the influence of risk for GDM on their children’s physical activity (PA) and body composition. The association between maternal and child PA, and associations of PA with body composition and physical fitness in preschoolers were also studied. A sample of 399 pregnant women at risk for GDM was examined in a cohort study, and 199 mother-child dyads were assessed in cross-sectional and l…
Longitudinal Study of Cytokine Expression, Lipid Profile and Neuronal Growth Factors in Human Breast Milk from Term and Preterm Deliveries
2015
Breast milk (BM) is considered as a reference for infant nutrition. The role of bioactive components, such as cytokines, hormones, growth factors (GFs) and fatty acids (FAs) is poorly known, but they might be implicated in immune response development. The aim of this study was to identify the lipid profile and the spectrum of cytokines and neuronal GF in BM samples and analyse the influence of gestational age and lactation time on these components. This study used a longitudinal prospective method for the characterization of cytokines, FAs and GFs global profiles in 120 BM samples from 40 healthy mothers (20 preterm and 20 term) collected as colostrum, transitional and mature milk. The cyto…
1649 Retrospective Analysis of Doxapram for the Treatment of Apnea of Prematurity
2012
Background and Aims Only one small randomized controlled study on doxapram to treat apnea of prematurity is available. Before the implementation of a local treatment protocol, we aimed to evaluate the frequency of administration of doxapram in our NICU. We asked, if frequency and severity of apneas were affected by doxapram, if intubation for apnea was avoided, and if side effects occurred. Methods We retrospectively analysed all premature infants Results 17 of 64 (27%) infants (mean gestational age 26.1 weeks, mean birth weight 733g) were treated during two years. All of them had been treated with caffeine before doxapram was applied. 70 therapy courses of 16 infants were analyzed. In 8 of…
Metabolic disorders during pregnancy and postpartum cardiometabolic risk
2018
Hormonal changes during pregnancy can trigger gestational diabetes (GDM), which is constantly increasing. Its main characteristic is pronounced insulin resistance, but it appears to be a multifactorial process involving several metabolic factors; taken together, the latter leads to silent or clinically evident cardiovascular (CV) events. Insulin resistance and central adiposity are of crucial importance in the development of metabolic syndrome, and they appear to correlate with CV risk factors, including hypertension and atherogenic dyslipidaemia. Hypertensive disease of pregnancy (HDP) is more likely to be an accompanying co-morbidity in pregnancies complicated with GDM. There is still inc…
Milk Protein Quality in Low Birth Weight Infants
1992
Growth rates tweight, length, and head circumference) and selected biochemical indexes of protein metabolism (serum urea, acid-base status, and plasma amino acid concentrations) were determined in low birth weight (LBW) infants appropriate for gestational age (birth weight < 1,650 g) fed three formu
Effects of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus on Cholesterol Metabolism in Women with High-Risk Pregnancies: Possible Implications for Neonatal Outcome
2022
Metabolic disorders in pregnancy, particularly gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), are associated with an increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcome and long-term cardiometabolic health of mother and child. This study analyzed changes of serum cholesterol synthesis and absorption markers during the course of high-risk pregnancies, with respect to the development of GDM. Possible associations of maternal lipid biomarkers with neonatal characteristics were also investigated. The study included 63 women with high risk for development of pregnancy complications. Size and proportions of small low-density (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles were assessed across trimesters (T1&nd…
Multiple pregnancies and environmental exposure: An impact of air pollution on fetal growth?
2018
Introduction Multiple pregnancies display all the complications of singletons, but in highest frequencies, especially for fetal growth abnormalities. In singletons, air pollution seems to be negatively associated with fetal growth. A similar relationship in multiple pregnancies can be expected. However, multiple pregnancies are systematically excluded from the studies of the impact of air pollution on pregnancy outcomes. This study aims to analyze in a population of multiple pregnancies the relationship between fetal growth restriction (FGR), small for gestational age (SGA) and environmental chronic exposure to air pollution in moderately polluted cities. Methods All the multiple pregnancie…
Inflammation and impaired endothelium-dependant vasodilatation in non obese women with gestational diabetes mellitus: preliminary results
2013
International audience; BACKGROUND: To evaluate whether abnormal endothelial function, a common finding in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) pregnancies, can be explained by inflammatory cytokines. METHODS: Forearm skin blood flow (FSBF), into response to acetylcholine (Ach) (endothelium-dependent vasodilatation), were measured in 24 pregnant control subjects and 28 gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) women, in the third trimester of gestation. A fasting glycemic and lipidic panel was obtained, and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha and IL-6) and adiponectin were also determined. RESULTS: FSBF is significantly reduced in GDM group compared with control subjects (344.59 +/- 57.791 vs.176.38…
